Ok, today I made the big purchase. I have wanted an Ibanez guitar for a long time. I have never had one. Today I cracked down and bought a slightly scratched (very small on the back) H.R. Giger Ibanez RG Series strat. I have been wanting/needing a guitar with a trem system on it. I got it for $500 at Musician's Friend. I talked them into making the cost $500 with tax included. The kid working there was so cool he threw in a nice Fender gig bag for free.
Before I checked out I noticed that one of the fine-tuning screws was missing, but the sales guy pulled one off another RG for me. I'm thrilled, but I'm sure refitting the strings will be a new adventure for me. I was advised to not remove all the strings and tension off at once.
I know to some this may not be considered a big purchase, but this is major with my budget. I don't know what happened. I wasn't that thrilled with the Giger's before, until I actually played one yesterday. The action is wonderful. I do have a little fret buzz to work out on my low E string, though. The whole body is mahogany.
I've been in a bit of a slump lately, so this should help breathe new life into me. I have a friend teaching me how to play Van Halen and Ozzy songs now.
It was important for me to rush home and tell my fellow Jemsiters. I haven't even plugged in to my own amp yet.
I know most know what a Giger looks like, but I will put up pics soon with me and my new baby. I've already installed strap-locks and a new strap on it. YIPPPEEE!!!
