New Guitar Day, something a little different..

Thanks to Swirltop I now have a little GRG M21 CA Mikro! I got this for my eldest son to play on. Cleaned it up, polished the frets and strung it up with some 10-46s. Tuned to E Standard, it doesn't feel too bad. Tuners are rubbish though, so bends on the G string definitely go out of tune! I think I've got some Gotohs I might retro-fit a bit later on.

It's a killer little axe that I'm sure my son will love

Nice, I've wanted a mikro myself but Ibanez won't release them in Japan... My god, these would sell so much if they were released here

Cool... I'm sure he'll love it. Fun little guitar to play. The 5 string Mikro basses are kind of neat too.

Thanks guys. It actually sounds pretty reasonable acoustically. If he digs playing and wants to continue I'll upgrade the pickups and stuff. The tuners I think I'll do after next restring.

I find it really cool that such a cheap guitar just needs a tuner and pup change to sound good.

Thanks. He's with me at work for the day, and if he has a good day we're going to the music shop to pick a strap for him. He's excited about that.

Re: New Guitar Day, something a little different..

So my son has finally gotten a bit more interested in learning to play lately, and the Mikro has come out. Decided it was time to review it. These are definitely fun little guitars to play with. The tuners are rubbish, but the guitar does stay in reasonable tune. In saying that, I have a tuner upgrade coming, and I'll probably also through in a decent pickup or two that I have lying around.

Are the tuner holes smaller than regular, 10mm I think? I went to swap the tuners on my sons Mikro RG and had this problem.

I have one for my daughter.
Swapped tuners for some Gotohs, lightly sanded back of the neck, swapped pick ups for an old rg550 V1 & V2 set.

It's now a neat little guitar.

Just standard 6 in a line tuners I think. I've lost the box so don't remember the model number.
