New Guitar Suggestion

So,

My singer/2nd guitarist wants something new. His specification lists as being a tele shape, black ideally (heaven help us all) with a budget up to 500. Significantly however, he definately wants a humbucker and ideally a single in there - this is where I stopped in my tracks and ran out of inspiration...

He's not remotely bothered by whom it's made as long as it's decent quality and up to a life of gentle gigging; thinking Fender (duh, obviously) but what about Schecter, G&L, others? Second hand is fine too of course and this is probably where the value is I guess.

Any idea's?

Cheers,
R

Ibanez FR or Fender Modern Player Telecaster with humbucker.

Re: New Guitar Suggestion

Thanks, fella's.

63Blazer: The Modern Player idea is good and think that might appeal - will see my buddy later and get him thinking. Looks like there's some options with that one too.

Guitarmechanic: I for one LOVE that! Reminds me of Mick Mars back in the day.. Is that yours? A truly amazing looking guitar, so elegant but means business :-)

MatiasTolkki: I looked for a Jet King as I'm a fan (i regularly play a Jet King bass with some folk) but not much doing round here. Won't stop searching the auction sites, however.

I like the Modern Player thinline tele that I tried. The solidbody one in black plays pretty much like any tele and is a good solid guitar. It's made out of pine like the earliest Fenders and some of them can be quite heavy.

If you could also try a Pete Townsend black Schechter tele, that's also a good one and somewhat more high gain. There are similar new, lower cost variants, too.

Re: New Guitar Suggestion

Also for high octane supertele guitars, see if you can get your hands on a B.C. Rich tele, which is pretty much like the Charvel one pictured. The headstock is the more conservative six on a side, similar to Charvel headstock, instead of that garrish nu-metal cow's udder/ballsack headstock found on many newer B.C. Rich guitars.

Of course the black metal and djent crowds probably think this gothic headstock of the BC Rich is great. You can't argue against success and the number of those bands sporting the new BC Rich guitars with that headstock on youtube is a testament to their ability to tap into a market.

Just like they can do that, I still think our Ibanez still has some foothold there (with help of Iron Label) and pretty much rules the prog metal and shredder scene (Abassi, Vai, Satriani, Timmons) with nobody even within Marshall stack range of us.
