New humbuckers for my Les Paul

I have grown to dislike the standard humbuckers gibson put into them, and to beef up the sound i was thinking about putting EMG active 81s and 85s into it... Any advice of suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Dave

Just put it in there, there is plenty of room in the control cavity, just be sure you get the longer shafts for the pots.

Re: New humbuckers for my Les Paul

My brother Dave got a pair of hand wound pickups out of the bay, by a company called Manlius. for one of his LPs, and they sound amazing, like Fralin PAFs if you're into that sound. He got them for 100 a matched pair as well. I would say stick with passives and look around a bit.

Re: New humbuckers for my Les Paul

Just wrap the battery in a piece of the foam that the pickups come shipped in and throw it in the control cavity

EMG's are good, I'm in the same situation; I'll be ordering EMG 60 for the neck and the standard ZW EMG for the bridge; of course theres always Livewires.

If you want the Zakk tone go for a set of the Bare Knuckle Miricle Man (men ?). They are passive so no arsing about with a battery required.

I have a set of Rebel Yells which are very good, more middy but very smooth.

SD Alnico Pro II's sound nice in a Les Paul.

If you like Dimarzio look into a pair of Evolutions for your LP.
