New Ibanez Extreme editions

Has anyone else noticed that Ibanez has just slipped in two new models? It appears that they're catering to the new metal scene with the way they're going. Both are non-prestige models and based on the list prices these are probably made in Korea

Essentially it's a neck-thru RG with EMG81/85 pickups(RGT6EX) and a fixed tail 7 string with a set of EMG 707's(RG7EX). At least they're putting out some guitars with some decent pickups again. Hopefully we'll see real Dimarzios and real Seymour Duncan's on the Ibanez line of guitars again. Here's the links to the Ibanez Japan site for everyone to check out:

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/japan/produc.../RG7EX_IP.html
http://www.ibanez.co.jp/japan/produc...RGT6EX_IP.html

I don't see it on the US or Canadian sites yet so it's probably a domestic Japan thing for now. None the less it's still good news.

Cheers,

Budd

Re: New Ibanez Extreme editions

You mean the GRX90? as in this model:

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/japan/produc...GRX90_TBS.html

It looks like a great entry level model, but hopefully the production quality of the Gio line of guitars are improving. The last batch of GRX's I saw looked like they were shipped out when they were still buffing out the finish.

Re: New Ibanez Extreme editions

If it was available internationally, my guess that it would do REALLY well.

Re: New Ibanez Extreme editions

I think the RG6EX would put an end to the RGT42 unless there was still a large demand for passive pickups. I want one now. T_T

I wouldn't mind having an RG7EX with a trem either.

Re: New Ibanez Extreme editions

A Korean 7-String with a trem? Dream on, dude.

I'm not too keen on EMGs. Why don't they release some Korean RGs with real Dimarzios?

That RG7EX is pretty cool. Would be nice if it was a different color other than black though.

Re: New Ibanez Extreme editions

Nice looking guitars......(I am partial to black).........I like the fret markers and the very dark rosewood fretboards. I think the SB520EXBK would look a lot better with one of these necks on it.

How difficult is it to obtain MIJ only models here in the US?

Re: New Ibanez Extreme editions

These guitars are obviously new and so they're testing them out in Japan. If they do well, then they might actually consider releasing them in the states. I've been saying for a while now that Ibanez should make some guitars that come stock with REAL EMGs. The fact that they even made a 7 string version leads me to believe that Ibanez is actually starting to listen to what the people want.

Re: New Ibanez Extreme editions

Where does it say the guitar is neckthru? I'd be real surprised if that's true.

It says so in the specs for the six-string.
SPECIFICATION
Basswood wing body
5pcs. Maple/Walnut neck-thru
Rosewood fingerboard
Edge Pro II bridge
EMG®85(H) neck pu
EMG®81(H) bridge pu

Those guitars would be fantastic if they had white binding. *drool*
