I'd say you got a deal at $70, but I see them go for around $250-300. I don't think roadstars are known to be good guitars, but I am by no means a roadstar expert lol, they prolly have some info on them at www.ibanezregister.com/ I believe thats the Roadstar II 440RV, if it has the original pro rock'r bridge I would stay away from any trem work. I think they made all of the roadstars in japan, not positive.

Great score on the guitar. A steal really. brothersnowgone is for the most part correct in saying that Roadstars are not known as good guitars. The key word here is "known" as they are def' sleepers in guitar land and because of their sleeper status you can get them on the cheap. $40 isnt cheap though, like I said its a steal! All the roadstars that I have owned or played have been quality built, solid players that are very gigable. Get a whammy bar for it, set it up and enjoy!!

any bridge is crap if you compare it to an edge You could maybe do some sublte tremelo work, but stay away from all out dive-bombing and such...

I have once, a few years ago. But it wasn't my guitar so I didn't have a whole lotta time playing the thing and it didn't hold tune very well. But again it wasn't my guitar and for all I know the strings weren't even stretched out yet. If you start dive bombing the thing and you come back to tune ok then go for it, but more evidence of them not being great bridges is they aren't made anymore (to my knowledge??).

Hey at the very worst you end up blocking it and end up with a fancy looking hard-tail lol, have fun with the guitar though

Problem with the pro rocker bridges is that they are pretty old now and parts are almost non-existant. They aren't the toughest things either. You'd probably be best off blocking the trem and using it as a hard tail guitar.

Re: New Ibanez Guitar I Got, Give Me Your Opinions

Hate to say it, but blocking off the trem maybe the best bet. I remember those trems and they never were that good. Nice guitar for the money though.

BTW....I am almost never an advocate of blocking a trem. I usually say, If you didn't want a trem ,you should have gotten a fixed bridge.

But for $70 @ a flea market, you can't be picky.

Re: New Ibanez Guitar I Got, Give Me Your Opinions

The Roadstars were great, and you really did get a steal at $70 - they really were the guitar that Ibanez replaced their Strat clones with - Fender were getting very upset at Ibanez because there was a (largely correct) perception that their strats were better than the ones Fender were churning out - so you got yourself a quality axe there!

Roadstars are great.

I also like the pro-rocker as a trem. Not as versatile as the true floyds but I really like it.

Re: New Ibanez Guitar I Got, Give Me Your Opinions

parts like screws and the saddles on the pro' rockers break easily and are hard to replace, thats the dislike about them. That aside I have a roadstar myself, vintage style bridge that I love.
