New Ibanez J-Custom MRG-13!

Looks like an RG version of the Paul Gilber'st reverse iceman.

What do you think?

Ooooooooo nice find (nice axe but £3000 or $4700 is a bit steep!)

I dig it, just not the price tag.

Re: New Ibanez J-Custom MRG-13!

Wow, that thing is VERY cool. I typically don't like a mahogany-ish guitar without some maple, but a Korina RG? Sign me up! H-H with a five way with an original edge is just awesome. That pickguard on that body is too cool. I'm not crazy about the pickups, but those are easily changable.

Sorry, gonna have to disagree, that guitar is indeed worth $4,800. Easily. Just because it is a Korina body J-Custom. This is the first desirable new J Custom I've seen. Too bad it will likely never be able to be sold outside of Japan.

I like the fact that is Korina.....would have rather seen it without that pickguard. But hey....everyone has their likes and dislikes.

Expensive but beautiful!

I don't like it. I think it looks too much un-J.Custom-like if you know what I mean - rather like a mix & match RG assembled from 2nd hand parts. The RT/RX-ish pickguard is the biggest disappointment for me.

I respect your opinion, but I am glad to see a J-custom that isn't highly flamed maple with vine inlays. To me, "J-Custom" means very high quality, very limited production Ibanez/Fujigen masterpieces, whatever the wood species/pup config/finish.

I love this guitar, but what I really want is a more affordable MIJ Fireman. If they can make really nice Ibanez Prestige guitars between $800-2000, they can make one in a Fireman body style.

Peace

Mike

Re: New Ibanez J-Custom MRG-13!

How funny - I JUST saw those on their website yesterday! I dig it. Even more, I like that it's got an EDGE trem. Soon as they put the Edge back on the RG8570, I'll be about $3k poorer. But I think the $4600 tag keeps this one off my list.

The EDGE is great, but it makes a 2010 J.Custom look even more like a patchwork of parts in my eyes. The plain center dots don't help either.

Of course my judgement is based on its looks only, and I am sure it plays and sounds like a dream, but the JC logo on the headstock and the clear finished Korina wood body are the only aspects that set this guitar apart from a typical "partscaster" RG that was just thrown together as far as the looks are concerned.

Your mileage may vary.

I actually really like this!! its different, maybe should be just a prestige. It would be REALLY nice if it had a loins claw and monkey grip!!

$800-2000 and still be made of Korina? Name something Korina that is cheap. I mean real Korina, not some veneer over small pieces of it like an Epiphone. Korina body blanks aren't cheap. Look at Hamer, Gibson, and of course Ibanez. The Fireman was cool, but it's a big set neck guitar with a fat neck. I would love to have the other version with humbuckers because I like set neck Gibson-esque guitars. But because of this, the Fireman is predictable. This is a bolt-on RG body guitar with an Edge that happens to be made of Korina. That's why I say this one is worth every penny.
