New to me RG!

So I picked this up today, 2001 (build date), RG570 in ruby red. best part? Set me back all of 200 bucks!

Previous owner had the pick ups installed along with a 3 way switch. Outut jack is kind of knackered and the wiring needs some work in general...

Anybody know the best way to wire up the active EMG's with the passive single in the middle?

It's possible to wire active with passive, but it's a complete pain in the ass. You'll need a separate pot for the active (the 25K that's there for them now), and one for the single (250 or 500K). There's more to that too.

Best bet is to either get an active single, or switch back to passives. If you want an active single I've got an EMG SA I can sell you if you like.

Re: New to me RG!

I would gladly buy another pick up to match,

Anybody have a wiring diagram for wiring it up?

I would like it to be

H, H-S, S, H-S, H with a 5 way switch...

Re: New to me RG!

Yep, that's a standard five way strat wiring setup. Easy as. EMG have the diagram on their site too I'm sure.

If you'd like the SA just send me a PM and we can work something out.

Re: New to me RG!

Could very well be a 470, I would have to check the neck joint...

The guy i bought it from didn't know allot about it other then he spent ALLOT of money on the EMG's in 2003

The craigslist add read "I have a japenese made Ibanez rg from early 2000's put in new pick up. car broke don't play you buy"

Re: New to me RG!

Cool guitar, looks like a 470 to me too. Low pro II and INF1 single are the give away. Great guitar for the money. A 470DX was my first good guitar some 17 odd years ago and I still love her! Wizard II neck is a little fatter, but still a great neck.

Re: New to me RG!

It's not an INF pickup, it's an S1. The guitar is a Japanese made RG 470, with LO-TRS bridge. A perfectly capable bridge that gets unfairly confused with the inferior LO-TRS II.

Re: New to me RG!

good deal for sure, nice looking guitar. I was looking at a penny copper RG470 earlier in the year but he wouldn't budge on the price.

Re: New to me RG!

SUCH a good deal for that guitar! Personally, I'd yank the EMG's, sell em on the 'bay & order up some DiMarzios for it.
