Talking New member, new guitar (RGR421), pics inside :)

Hey everyone,

I am new here. I registered back in October but I didn't activate my account until today Anyway, I figured I would start off by showing some pics of my new RGR421EXFM. Its amazing to play, I just need to figure out what pickups I'm eventually going to put in there. The "Designed by EMG" pups don't do this guitar any justice. Well, enjoy!

Thanks man, I'll definitely look into Dimarzios, but I think I'm gonna stick to black.

Welcome! That's a very nice-looking guitar. I had a RGR321 which is pretty much the same guitar sans the flamed maple. Just curious if you find the Designed by EMGs really bassy as well?

Thanks alot man. Yeah, I do find the Designed by EMGs to be really bassy. They do sound kinda cool when I turn the amp up and hit powerchords cause they have this warm growl but I think that can be attributed more to the mahogany guitar. They also have this cold scratchy high-end jangliness that I just cannot get rid of no matter how I set up the EQ or my tone knob. I am looking at possibly a Dimarzio X2N/Air Norton combo to replace them, but I am nowhere near sure. I'd like to get real EMGs, but I don't know if I wanna do the whole battery thing.

Sorry for rambling

Nice axe! I have been looking at one of those for a long while now.

Might I suggest one of the D-Activator sets from DiMarzio? I bought a dirt-cheap similar guitar (RG2EX1) expressly for the purpose of trying out different pickups, and I have to say that these really impressed me the most. I have always been an EMG fan, and tried those first.

The D-Activators sound *very* simliar, only they are a bit fuller sounding, every bit as quiet, and the best part....NO BATTERIES!!

I've also heard good things about the D-Activator X pickups, which look like an X2N, but apparently have the same design basis as the original D-Activators.

Anyway good luck in picking your new pickups! Also, be sure to post some sound clips of whatever you eventually put in there!

Hey. This guitar has been pretty good to me except one issue which it is in the shop for now. I had to get the bridge moved over to the left about 3/64" because the strings were skewed over to the right. I made a thread about it not too long ago. Unfortunately I did not notice that there was a problem for a while because I bought the guitar when i was still a bit new to the world of guitars. Back then, I didn't think there could possibly be any major problems with a $400 guitar, hehe. I would've sent it back if I had known, but besides the bridge issue, it is a flawless guitar so its not so bad. Who knows, Ibanez might have sent me another one with a perfectly centered bridge but a different problem.
Ok, now about that RG2EX1, it is funny that you say you have that guitar and want the guitar that I have...Because I am looking to get an RG2EX1 to keep in alternate tunings. I'm not looking to trade guitars or anything, but I would like to possibly trade some high quality pics and clips of my guitar for pics and clips of yours. This way, we can help each other out. How do you like your guitar? Mine came with the same Designed by EMG pickups..I didn't like them...swapped them out for SD JB/Jazz combo. I actually have a set of GFS crunchy rails that I'd like to put in the Rg2EX if I get it. I have a feeling they will complement the basswood body nicely.

Sorry for the essay.
