New neck or new guitar?

I have a RG570 that i want to replace the neck. *The neck has a nice crack behind the nut. *Is it easier/cheaper just to buy a used neck (pre-aanj) or just buy another used RG? *I was thinking of selling it but i doubt i would get much cash for it - has the above flaw and also one chip on the edge of the body (about the size of a penny, and the wood shows), dimarzio tone zone in bridge and paf pro in neck, switched to 3-way switch with the middle pu removed (hole there).

Any ideas on what i should do would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Jeff-
This can be fixed. *I'd remove the stings and nut clamp first. * Then GENTLY pry the crack open by bending the headstock forward and squirt in some wood glue (stuff it in with a toothpick). *Clamp and wipe the excess glue. *Let set a couple days, *fine* sand IF necessary, and rock on. *I've done it...not hard!

You might be able to do a fix on the paint yourself as well.

New neck or new guitar?

Thanks for the response, quick question *- will the crack in the neck cause the neck to bow, for example i have had it set up by my local music store and asked them to adjust the action as low as possible without buzzing, but they always return it still pretty high - would the crack be a cause for this?

thanks

I don't think it would cause the neck to bow, other than right where the crack is...depending on which way the crack is directed. *Does the crack on yours run between the bolts, or from one bolt to the other?

Doesn't sound like it would cause the neck to bow, other than perhaps right there at the crack area. *I've seen very small cracks like your that did not seem to affect playability at all. *The crack in mine was from bolt to bolt, hence easier to get it apart and glue.

Jeff,
Before you spend any money, have a word with Brian (becalvert)..... www.universaljems.com

I'm sure he has experience with this situation and may be able to lend advice.

if its mint with only that one crack in the neck, local shops sell them for around 350. i almost bought a used fixerupper 570 a few months ago. it was in perfect shape but the paint job got chipped to hell, and it was selling for 329. it sold pretty fast too.

Just how severe is the crack? *If you post some pictures we could probably say more about it. *Id say this and neck joint cracks, are some of the most common damage points for ibanez guitars, and I rather expect it in any of the really "used" guitars. *

Here hey are:

Hmmm...not sure what to say about the crack...easy enough to get some glue in there (after removing nut/bolts), but not sure if a clamp would be effective to draw it closed. *I'll bet there's some nail polish somewhere that same color.
