New pickups for a Les Paul - Paf pro, FRED or Breed ?

Hi,

I want to change the pickups on my les paul studio.
I also have a Ibanez Jem90Ham and a Ibanez Universe BK'97. I like the sound on the Jem with Evolution pickups. But I found it very clashy. I prefer the sound on the Universe which is more mellow and less output power, with the Blaze-II pickups.
For my Les Paul I would like to have heavy pickups, that sound kinda like the Blaze-II. However I want to be able to have a clean sound, without any distortion from the pickups. I want a good attack and good compression from the pickup.

DiMarzio tech advised this to me:
- bridge: steve's special
- neck: paf pro, FRED, or breed

What would you suggest for the neck pickup ?
I think the "FRED" should be the best, but I'm afraid it won't balance perfectly with the "steve's special" in terms of output volume.

Nicolas.

Personally I like the PAF pro in the neck

And I think the output balance between it and the Steve's special will be fine But the FRED is very similar to the PAF Pro so if that's your gut instinct go for it

PAF Pros are the best neck pickups available, in my opinion. Get 'em!

If you have the opportunity to listen to one, I would highly recommend the Seymour Duncan "Pearly Gates" in neck or lead positions on a Les Paul. If it doesn't deliver the sound you want, then go the Zakk Wylde route with EMGs.

The Zakk Wylde ones are way to rocky and punchy for me !!!!
I want to be able to get a mellow/heavy sound and clean.
