I think the first thing you should do is a search of the forums! There have been a few discussions, usually recommending dimarzio blue velvets or HS2s and 3s.

What sort of sound are you looking for?

i play mostly instrumental rock and blues, and sometimes metal and alternative rock (as my bandmates like metal and alternative rock)

If you are going for high gain settings on your amp, the HS3 is great because it is humbucking, so you don't get all the noise of a single coil.
