new prestige 1570!

Well on wednesday I recieved a 1570MRB as a birthday present and I have to say its abolutely marvelous!!
The neck is awesome, vary thin and fast, i was actually worried i wouldnīt like the neck but i love it!!
The trem is wonderful too, 100% in tune all the time and i like the pups.
The thing is that i have some questions:
1. The fist time i put the whammy bar in the socket it was really stiff and it stayed in the same place all the time, now the arm goes down, that doesnīt really bothers me, but can i buy only the bushes or do i have to buy a new arm??

2. when iīm not using the guitar should i leave the nut tightened??

3. how do i get the ball-ends in those red things in the trem? i gave up trying and just cut them off in the low strings and strung with the ball-ends at the tuners in the high strings.

Re: new prestige 1570!

Congrats

1: Bushings are ridiculously expensive, considering they are silly bits of nylon. Get yourself some plumbers tape (PTFE), remove the bushings, cut an inch or two of tape, wrap tightly around the end of the bar, replace bushings.

2: Yes.

3: Save yourself the hassle and cut 'em off.

Re: new prestige 1570!

thanks dee!
how much more or less is a bar worth?? if i add the tape would that make the bar stiff again??
and for example if i am traveling with my guitar should i leave the nut tightened?
and how much is a locking nut worth? just in case i tighten it too much lol

Re: new prestige 1570!

Yeah, the tape will hold it in place and stop it rattling around for about a week, then you gotta do it again, unfortunately. The nylon bushings only stay stiff for about the same length of time anyway.

I think a brand new lock nut (Top-Lok III, 43mm) costs around $50. You can get good condition used ones on e-Bay for a little less. I think an Edge/Lo-Pro Edge/Edge Pro tremolo arm (all these systems use the same one) is around $15, maybe a little more. It's hard to say, with me being in the UK, I don't have an accurate figure on these parts, but I think I'm close. Check IbanezRules.com (click the banner at the top of the page) and see for yourself. Rich has a great list of parts for sale.

It's no problem at all to leave the nut pads locked all the time. Don't over-tighten, you'll strip the pad screws.

There has to be a solution to the rattling arm problem. I have been trying to find some hollow plastic tubing so I can make my own bushings for a while. If you take a slice out of a circle of tubing it would be just like the C-shaped bushings, I reckon. I just can't find the right size.

Re: new prestige 1570!

Congratulation on joining the 1570 club

I've had mine now for just over a year, and I'm as happy with it now as I was on the day I picked it up. Prestige Ibanez = win

Rock on!

Rich's guides are also useful. Read those, if you haven't already.
