New to RG - Which one?

Hi everyones!

Recently I fall back in shred stuff. I play songs from Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert all others prog' rock.

As a primary blues, jazz and funk player, my rig is not so well adapt to it (A Telecaster and a Stratocaster (SSS)). So, i'm looking for a more well suited guitar for my new passion, shredding. I'm looking for a Ibanez RG, I know what I want but i'm little messed up with all these series. So; i want my RG to be:

-HSH (I like the versatility of this setup).
-Rosewood fretboard (I tried a RG3250MZ and really not liked the feel of maple for this kind of guitar).
-Tremolo (for sure!)

Others stuff not really bother me.

For now, my options are the following;

-Used RG1570MRR - pretty clean, the guy sell it 700$ (it's CAN dollars, im from Quebec).
-New RG2550Z GW
-New RG3570Z LB

I was wondering if the 1570 worth the price, considering the pups are not so good and may be I will need to change them. The 2550 seems good when i tested it but i found the 3570 more attractive but i didn't tried one.

I'm asking your advice to which guitar seems the better in your opinion. May be i have missed some models that can be great. It seems people in the forum are not really into the new RGs because of the Edge Zero trem. In Canada the market for old RG seems really poor compare to US, so I don't know if it will be easy to find some good old RG.

May be some Canadian RG-lovers have some hints or good place to look at for used RG.

Grab a used RG570. Cheaper and are great.

He said "In Canada the market for old RG seems really poor compare to US, so I don't know if it will be easy to find some good old RG", so the RG570 probably isn't too feasible... which is too bad.

Let's not forget eBay--where old RGs are plentiful.

Re: New to RG - Which one?

I wouldn't say the newer RG's are a no-go because of the EZ trem. It's a GOOD trem, make no mistake. But most people on here do seem to favor the original Edge and Lo-Pro trems.

That said, you would be in great shape with any of the choices you've listed. Those are all quality guitars that will last you a lifetime if properly cared for. You do step up to real DiMarzios with the RG3570Z, but the other two are still great guitars that you might save some money on, and then you could get the pickups YOU want.

Play all of them and then decide what you like best. If the only issue is pickups, that's an easy fix. Mainly, find one you like the way it looks, feels, and plays. You can always tweak the electronics later.

But yeah, I'd also keep an eye on Craigslist or eBay for a used RG500 or RG700 series as an option. Even in a weak market they turn up, and lots of sellers on eBay will ship to Canada. And you cannot beat those guitars for shred.

Welcome to Jemsite Moris!!

Every suggestion on here are good ones (if not a little conflicting...LOL)

I guess it's important to know what type of budget your have. If you have a sub-$1k budget you choices are limited as compared to a $2-3k budget....and so on.

I'd actually be looking for a new/used 505 myself. All the goods at a good price........just do a magnet swap for free or pay for new pups to be installed
