"New" RG570 Swirltop for Xmas :)

Here she is just finished putting her together yesterday. Did the swirl, liked the front didn't like the back so I decided to do a swirltop....

Evo's in the neck and bridge with the S1 middle. She's a screamer and plays so fast and smooth all the hard work was definitely worth it.

One of the best xmas presents I've ever given myself, I'm really happy with how this turned out

Re: "New" RG570 Swirltop for Xmas :)

Thanks man! I know what you mean about the backs, this was the 4th swirl I did on this body. The other 3 were all sweet looking on the back, but the front was meh... Naptha became my friend

This one looked sweet on the front and sides, but there was a huge bare spot on the back. I figured what the hell at least it's somewhat original.

I can't get very good pics with this cam though, it looks so much better in person...

Very nice!
Now, ditch the deals and put on a pyramid board and inlays from aiguitars.

Awesome man!!! I really dig it!!! I love the mineral stained Basswood on the back too.....This one is original, and very cool!!!

I agree with AB about getting a good pyramid board from Ai......... those stickers aren't doing this guitar ANY favors.

You guys ever thought of turning the guitar around before dipping it?? LOL!!!

Thanks everyone...

I know real inlays would be sweet, but I like the decals enough and they look better than the plain dots.... I love how this neck plays so it's staying the way it is until I need a refret, then maybe I'll get to carving the board up...

Yeah actually I turned it around for this one! I was just out of paints and tried to squeeze one more dip out of what I had and got a bare spot

You don't need to carve up the board.
Al at guitars sells prerouted pyramid boards and inlays.
Just remove the board and put the new one on--then the fretwork.
Really easy to do, and doesn't cost much.

Yeah man his gear looks good... Maybe someday I'll go for an ebony board, but I'm going to enjoy playing this just the way it is for awhile... I love the neck and especially the board it's a nice tight grain about as close to ebony as rosewood can get...

These decals look a lot better in person to be honest. They aren't just plain assed vinyls like the those pickup stickers you can get. Not as cool as real inlays, but cool enough for now

Thanks for the info AB

I had 2 boards from al.
One was unevenly planed before radiusing so the actual bottom was unlevel causeing the top to be 2mm unlevel after applied to neck.

The other was machined off plane of centerline causing simular results.

it is important to machine center because it is premachined for the inlays and not centered puts the inlays uncenter when mounting the neck to centerline of board.

Also if you are not experienced it is very tuff to do a level fret job.

i would suggest a neck from nate perle. 370.00 and a nice done right neck.

I like messing with refinishing bodies and I can level and crown frets, but I think I'd go with a professionally built neck rather than swapping out boards on an already perfect neck just for inlays TBH. Or I'd have to buy a few in need of repair necks to practice on first...
