New Rogue 'coral sitars'

I was looking through Musicians Friend today and see that Rouge has a couple sitar models (one more traditional with 2 pickups and 13 sympathetic strings (or maybe it was 15?) and the other was just a normal 6 string with a bridge pickup). Has anyone ever seen/played one of these and how do you think they are? The highest one is only about $350, so I was thinking about getting it.

For being a cheap brand, Rouge puts out a lot of cool stuff.

I've never seen or played one, but I saw them in Musician's Friend as well. I don't know about the quality of them, but I REALLY want one I could even have one of my friends play it while I play FTLOG

That's "Rogue" not "Rouge".

Ditto...I was gonna say, I think I see rouge in my girlfriend's purse once in awhile...

I tried one of these sitars, with the chromatic 13 strings, and it actually was very cool! The pickups lack any real warmth compared to the Jerry Jones stuff, but the thing played great, and an EQ took care of the tones. The only thing I noticed out of the box was the neck was kinda backset a bit harshly. But it was an easy fix...

That's good news...that caught my eye too.

On a similar subject, I saw some special brass saddles (kinda flat profile) for traditional tele bridge that were supposed to do the buzzy sitar thing. Might be a cool option as well.

It's funny how a lot of us seem to notice the same things. There's one "review" up at HC if anyone is interested.

What exactly are those 13 sympathetic strings for? I don't really see a purpose for them...or how you would play them while playing the other ones...

They ring "sympathetically" with the notes you're playing to create an authentic sitar sound (yes, an actual sitar has sympathetic strings).

You don't play them, they play along
