New toy on the way soon

Since I've been itching to have a 6 string again(all I have are 7s and the 9), I decided to go for another guitar from the guy that built my Ergo 9 string.

Click on the picture for a larger shot.

Some of the specs are:
- 27 fanned frets
- 26" to 24 3/4" scale lengths.
- Acetate fret board(basically fake MOP)
- White LED fret markers
- Swamp Ash body
- Mapel neck
- Piezos in the bridge
- Kent Armstrong pickups

I figured if I was going to have another 6 string it might as well be a little bit on the strange side.

I'm not sure I like the fretboard, but everything else looks/sounds great

You'll have to post clips of it or something when you get it

And let us know how the fanned-fret thing is on a 6-string.

Yeah, the fret board is a bit... 'silly' but that's part of it's quirky charm.
I'm curious as to how that will affect the tone.

Ah I dunno, I kinda like the fretboard idea - like you said its kinda quirky.
It will be interesting to see what that sounds like and plays like for that matter with those criteria. Looks like a cool idea and should be a great purchase for ya. Its certainly different alright!

it might be a stupid question , but what's the point of fanned frets on a 6string ?

I dunno.
I just think it's funny that my 9 string should have fanned frets but doesn't. Yet the 6 string does.

ok but what's the point of fanned frets on a 8 or 9string ? Are they necessary because the neck is so wide or ...? I mean what's their advantage compared to normal frets?

I hear the 'fanned frets', whether on a 6 string or a guit with more than 6, are simply more ergonomic. It's just more natural and comfortable with the position of your hands and fingers to have the frets fanned that way. I remember some company touting the ease of playability of frets like that years ago, but for the life of me I can't remember who they were. It's sort of like those damn split ergonomic computer keyboards... supposedly if you get used to them you suffer less wrist and hand fatigue. Of course, I never got used to it and refuse to try again :P

But it makes sense. Think about how your hand and fingers would naturally want to play on the fretboard (further away from you down the neck and more toward you on the higher frets), and how we crank our elbows and wrists to compensate for straight frets.

A friend of mine has a bass with fanned frets and it is more comfortable to play.

Although, on this guitar the frets dont have a very drastic fan to them.

Also, I found out that the piezo system is set up with 2 outputs. One runs all the piezos and if you plug in the next it splits the piezos. I think E,D,B to one side and A,G,E to the other. Or something like that. It should be fun.
So in total this thing has 3 outputs.

Ahh... cool. Bob Mould had an electric/acoustic along those lines... I think it was a 12-string where all of the alternate strings were panned L or R. So 1/2 the strings (but not sequential) were panned L, and 1/2 R. Like yours, but with 12 strings. Big sound, very cool for studio work.

Yamaha used to have stereo pickups on some of their high-end APX acoustics (and maybe some others) that had alternate strings panned to the left and right channels. Cool idea. It'd sound massive for chords, but a maybe little odd for single note stuff.

I love the fretboard lol.

Like the irony too, in that the 9 string ISN'T fanned
