Re: New vs old Ibanez guitar
I've been playing Ibanez since 1991 and IMO some years are better than others - like wine. Lots of people will swear the early RG's are best but I think they did have some quality issues back then. The necks were sometimes prone to warp from being so thin, especially if they were maintenanced poorly over the years. I didn't like the plastic pickup rings on the early RG570's. Finish wise I think early RG's (late 80's to early 90's) were best. Late 90's had the Super Wizard with the bubinga stripe, one of the best necks IMO, but the paint finish/adhesion late 90's to very early 00's was crap. The Prestige line seems best to me overall. Non-locking studs on the Edge Pro guitars were a point of contention but everything Prestige now has the Original Edge (or LoPro on 7's) so it's all good now.
I would say the 652 you tried is best. And IMO fixed bridge RG's can't be beat.
