Newbie and a lefty question....

Greeeting everyone!

I've just bought me a brand new RG470L and been playing for a month now, man its tough playing guitar but I'm really dedicated to playing! Hopefully one day I will start playing songs from old Metallica, Slayer and megadeth soon. Anyway my question is would it be unwise to swith to a righty guitar even though I'm left handed? Its really tempting to do that b/c lefties don't have much option and we usually get screwed one way or another. I mean, it seems there are a lot of left hander that play righty guitar with no problem so I'm assuming it can't be that hard. If any lefties that took this route, let me know how your experience was like. Yea, yea, I know, my lo-trs is cheap...but to be honest I don't really have any real problem with it. It stays in tune thats all that matters to me and I only use the tremolo occasionally so maybe thats why its doin alright. Oh yea, the guitar is awesome and plays very comfortably, much props to Ibanez!

welcome, man!

well, i'm not lefty so i dont really know what to play a 'reverse' guitar means (even if i'm a proud owner of a PII!), but in my opinion you're right, cause if you get used to play a righty guitar, you will never had problems finding your guitar of choice on the market, and you'll have no problems when you'll happen to borrow some friend's guitars. cause this will happen to any guitarist, sooner or later.

just get used to it, and you'll never have problems at all.

btw, dont worry about what we think about the TRS, if you like it, and if it works for you, that's fine.

If you're familiar with Steve Morse's work, you know already that a lefty can play right handed and still get it all done. Is your new guitar a righty or lefty?

I am as lefthanded as one can get so the option to switch to right is nearly impossible for me, I've tried (no good ). But I do agree if you can switch then do it, you'll be able to get a much larger variety of guitars.

Just one final remark though, are you a complete lefty or is it just on guitar you play as a lefty. Because forcing oneself to switch can mess up a lot things for you!

Kind Regards

I'm a natural born lefty and yes my rg470 is a lefty guitar. I think i'm gonna stick with it . I've gone too far already to change to a righty guitar, it could make me go crazy to switch over.

Yeah, good decision. Forcing kids to go from lefty to righty messed up some of them enough to warrant child psychologists to warn against it. If you're wired like that, live with it.

You could do what Hendrix did and just string a righty guitar backwards
