Next Prestige

So my bonus check is coming soon and I'm thinking of getting a new guitar to satisfy my GAS this year. I have the opportunity to buy the following models from a local distributor's unsold inventory:

1. Ibanez RGA220Z
2. Ibanez JEM505

Both guitars are new btw.

I don't care much for versatility and stuff cause I only play metal & hair metal. My current guitars are the RG2550EX and an RG2570E. I only have enough to buy 1.

So if u guys are in my shoes, which one would you be going for? Or should I just go for the new 550/570. But bear in mind that those 2 guitars up there are substantially discounted making it cheaper than the Genesis.

Re: Next Prestige

My gut tells me that too. But how about the V7/V8 pickups they come installed with? Do they require an upgrade? My RG2550 still has the stock Dimarzio/IBZ and I kinda like that pickup.

Re: Next Prestige

V7/V8 are severely underrated. I've never swapped them out of any guitars i've had.

I second that... but you can also do Lone Phantom's magnet swap on the v7/v8.

I tried it and liked the results, but I don't get too hung up on tiny sound details either... if it rocks, I like it!

Re: Next Prestige

Just an update here guys. Decided not to go for an Ibanez/superstrats this time cause I know they'd end up feeling and sounding the same. 2 RGs are more than enough for me. Instead, got myself a 2013 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster in Burgundy Mist.

Re: Next Prestige

lol, but yeah man. With RGs, at least the ones I have anyway, don't they all feel and sound the same to you? Not that its a bad thing, I like consistency actually. But if you're looking to expand your tonalities, perhaps a Fender in this case is more appropriate no?

No, I get it. Every guitar has its purpose. I always love the way a Les Paul sounds, but Ive never bought one.

I do like the idea of having the feel exactly the same though. I wanna try something else besides a basswood RG. Next will be a mahogany or ash body.
