NGD: 1987 RG560 some buzz

Hi All, I'm new to the Ibanez world. I've been playing for about 14 years now. Never had an ibanez, but always wanted one. I had a chance to pickup a sweet RG560 with a MAPLE board. Its a rare 1987 model as I was told. Everything seems to checkout also from the research I've done, the seller said it was a special order. I will post pics once I get some good outdoor shots!

Well after playing it with high action I decided to go lower, the action is REALLY low but it buzzes only on D and G strings on the 9th fret only! I haven't adjusted the truss rod yet, I don't actually have a tool that fits it!

So for 1, what type of wrench do I need for a 87 RG560 and 2, do I need more relief? or could the 10th fret be a little high (doesn't look that way).

I don't have much experience with 24 fret guitars so I'm not sure by giving it more relief the 9th fret would be affected as much as the 5-7 frets on a 22 fret guitar, but thats what seems logical to me.

80's Ibanez guitars rules!

Here are some pictures! I have the back cover, I was messing with the action. Going to get the period correct saddles soon.

Truss rod adjustment and individual string height adjustment may be needed.

Not sure what you mean by wrench you need cause the truss rod has a special tool that does the job properly.. and all ibanez guitars come with them...

Thanks, I'll have to try it.

This guitar didn't come with any tools, and the the wrench's I have do not fit the truss rod nut.

The truss rod wrench is pictured at the bottom--this is what you need:

Actually I located the problem, the saddles are not correct, some are floyd rose saddles, 1 is a edge saddle, a couple are god knows what....

A couple of saddles won't be too much- you could put a few bucks into this and still wind up with a great deal!

Yeah, don't get rid of it just because of the saddles.

If you don't want to buy some new saddles straight away just use some emery paper to make some shims to raise the saddles that are too low.

Re: NGD: 1987 RG560 some buzz

My only concern is putting them on correctly, are all the saddles the same? Or is their a specific saddle for each string?

From memory all Edge saddles are the same. The baseplate is tiered to match neck radius.

thanks, now that I'm looking at it I can see that it is tiered. Thats a really innovative approach from what I'm used to, i.e. the original floyd rose.

tommorrow I am exchanging the (4) schaller saddles with original edges saddles, then it will be pretty much all set. I will do a brass block upgrade like muttz did.
