Picked this up on CL locally a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to polishing the frets and giving it a set up.
Bought it from the original owner who bought it new in 1990 in a going out of business sale at a local store. He's not a guitar player, and other than a couple strums over the years he says he never played it. Judging from the fact that there is ZERO fret wear (not a scratch, dent, nothing), and zero wear to the hardware, I believe him. He claims the strings were the originals from the factory, wouldn't surprise me based on their condition.
The only damage to the guitar is one chip in the paint on the headstock and a couple small dings on the bottom edge, and some swirl marks to the pickguard. For whatever reason he says the guitar didn't have any strap buttons when he bought it, so he put a couple screws and washers in (hence my ad in classifieds looking for some strap buttons, somebody hook me up!)
The guitar wasn't case kept, but it's in generally EXCELLENT condition, and the neck/fretboard have that lovely dark aged maple patina you get on old maple. The neck on this guitar is truly unbelievable, honestly one of the best I've ever played. It feels so nice it's literally hard to stop playing it.
The V7, V8, and S1 honestly sound incredible in this guitar. Nothing about the sound makes me want to change them, and given the condition of the guitar I think I'll keep it original.
The color was off putting at first, but it's really grown on me because I'm so infatuated with how the guitar plays and sounds. She has some great mojo, kinda like she's been sitting around begging to be played for 21 years, and is so happy to get some TLC that (even in the hands of a hack like me) she's ready to rock.
Without further ado, here she is:
