NGD 2 of them

MIM Roadworn 50s Strat. Say what you want about relics, but the stats on this guitar are awesome.
6105 fretwire & Nitro finish the rest is typical Strat fair. Extremely comfortable neck. I wont say the relic look wasn't part of the appeal, but the stats sold it. It would probably be a good idea for Fender to sell the same guitar with out the relicing and possibly drop the price. Either way, for my price it's perfect.

I'm throwing in a Stew Mac Mega Switch E, some Texas Specials, and eventually a Callaham bridge. I wanted to go with Lollars, but given my history with Strats I don;t want to sink that kind of money into them.

Then came this

08 Les Paul Standard Faded. They say the thin finish opens up the sound of the guitar. I haven't had a chance to really compare it to my Classic. Chambered body, which I was originally against, but after playing my Classic I like it. Not as much as my solid R7, but it isn't as bad as I expected. 60s neck and typical LP stats.

I plan on putting some WCRs in it (probably a Betts Set), Tone Pros Stop Bar and probably Tune-O-Matic, and I'm leaning towards installing the pick guard right now.

I would hold them, hug them, squeeze them, and play with them till they could not take it anymore.

Re: NGD 2 of them

Like the Les Paul but for the cost I would go for a early 70's LP Custom. But I dont know what you paid.

Not a fan of the Abercrombie And Fitch Strat.

But congrats! Enjoy! =D

The top of that paul looks really cool in a vintage sort of way. Looks kinda non-symmetrical.

Re: NGD 2 of them

Nice guitars; that's the best looking roadworn strat i've seen yet. Real nice finish and i love the specs on these. I'm not a maple fan but on that looks v. cool.

That Gibson is awesome, i'd leave the pick guard off though (depending how much it's gonna get played i guess) as it looks killer without it.

Re: NGD 2 of them

Here's better pics of the LP top

I had an 76 Custom for awhile and it was a nice guitar. Sold it to help a family member.
Early 70s Customs seem to be going for over $3K now, more than double what I paid for this one.

Re: NGD 2 of them

nice paul if you mod ,look at the bonamassa paul. i have one and the mods to the bridge (changed saddles on the high strings and wraparound) really make a difference

I looked at the strats and thought the relic was okay but fret ends on the neck where nasty sharp

Re: NGD 2 of them

Yeah it is. They stopped advertising them in 05, but made them until 08. I called Gibson to confirm this before I bought this one. I read a lot of review online saying the thin, matte finish had a positive effect on the tone. I doubt I would notice something so minor,or be able to attribute it down to 1 specific feature, but it looks, plays and sounds great.

The on ly drawback to the LP is I have to sell my SG Custom to fund it, but the SG never got played anyway

I will change it to a wrap around when I get the Tone Pros stuff in. WHen I bought the Silverburst from GuitarsnGuns here, he had it strung up that way and I changed my Classic to it and will do it to this one eventually.

Maybe it's just the picture, but the fret end on the strat are fine.
