Score! Been after one of these forever! I've seen a couple beaters come up for sale, but nothing nice. I even purchased a repainted one of these that I had intended on getting refinished in DY. I was literally going to take that guitar apart on the day that the seller of this guitar contacted me and asked if I was interested.

What a killer guitar. This thing must have been a case queen and only played indoors, because the DY paint is almost perfect, unlike any of the ambered ones I see. The only guitar I've seen with more pristine DY paint is my 540S, which I was planning on using for the color match to get the old guitar resprayed.

This guitar is marked as a factory second, but I believe that's because of a paint chip on one of the edges. There's a chip that the touch up paint matches closely enough that it was probably done by Ibanez. But due to the super low play time on this, I'd say today the guitar is better than most used stuff from this vintage. The hardware is almost perfect on this thing, which I've NEVER seen on anything this old other than a Jem. It came with the beehive knob and everything!

On to the pics!

Re: NGD: '89 540PSH-DY

very nice! that looks remarkably fresh for a guitar that is 23 yers old...looks in perfect condition! congrats man!!!

Awesome family portrait...I love the JCRG8620 - beautiful grain on that top... looks really nice...I also love the GMC Jem...I've always liked black, white and wood grain guitars over colors but the green on that GMC is it!

Sweet collection and happy NGD

We both scored today....I kinda wish I found yours though as the 540p and p2 are my absolute favorite Ibbys.

Re: NGD: '89 540PSH-DY

Thanks, guys. Persistence pays off. I kept after this one for a long time. Proved to be one of the hardest of the collection to come by, next to the two JC's.

If anyone wants a DY PII, there's one on eBay right now for the low price of only $3200 LOL!

On that collection pic, do people realize that I blacked out two of the guitars that are still works in progress? I'm just not sure that's obvious.

Hey Jess,

Not to take away from this thread but... On the collection shot did you "photoshop" the shadows on the guitars??

Also did you first crop the guitar so that the pic was ONLY of the guitar then drop the background behind it??

Or did you have another method all together...

Looks very professional....

Re: NGD: '89 540PSH-DY

The shadows are natural and were part of the pictures of the guitars. Basically, I took a picture of the background with no guitar there. Then, I zoomed it so that the magnification was the same I was using for the guitars. Then I cut out a 480x320 section of it and basically tiled it to make a 1920x1280 background. You have to flip the image a bunch of times to that all the edges line up, that's why the background appears to have a pattern to it.

Then I just took pictures of all the guitars individually against the same background. These are copied and pasted onto the background and each guitar is its own layer, so I can change any of them out without redoing the entire image.

The guitar images are on top of the background (obviously) and then I just erased away everything that isn't the guitar or the shadow. It just takes some careful use of the eraser tool to get good blending where the shadows are. I also had to make sure to take all the pictures in the same orientation so that the shadows are always going the same direction.

The shadows on the text is Photoshop, just the Drop Shadow function in the layer properties. Those are all their own layers as well, so I can do the picture with and without the text.

Sweet new axe - I wish Ibanez would do a run of them again, even if it were Indonesian!

I don't care if it's factory second. to me it's like fly back to the 89 and grab this one off the store.
very rare chance to get this one with this condition.
congrats man!
