NGD '91 RG770DX

I brought in a super nice 1991 RG770DX...it's in excellent condition, and got a great deal on it. The other thing I noticed is that this one has two F2 pickups as shown in the European catalog, as opposed to an F2 and F4 as shown in the US catalog. So this one was probably originally sold in Europe I'm guessing.

Here's a picture of the guitar next to a reissue. Anyone else notice the color on the reissues is much lighter than the originals?

Original is on the left, reissue on the right.

It's not just RR that is different either, here's a DY RG550 next to a reissue. The reissue seems to have more green in it, more of a chartreuse color than the original. Interestingly I the reissue is also lighter...i expected the original to be lighter in color due to fading over the years.

Original on the left, reissue on the right

I also noticed a difference when comparing my '87 RG550 RFR with the reissue. I don't have a picture side by side because the reissue is my brother's and not in my hands at the moment. The RFR on the reissue seems to be quite a bit more red compared to the more pink original.

You are right, there's definitely a noticeable color difference. Awesome that you have both originals and reissues. They're such wonderful guitars and I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to own both either. I used to have an '87 550 in RFR, however I do have a reissue 770DX in LB and an RG550R-XX. Now you know something, I did see an original 770, not a DX, without a pickguard and I can still remember the hue of the color and yes it was darker than the reissue DX even though they are categorized as the same color name. Maybe aging has something to do with it because obviously even the grain on the original DY's fretboard looks darker. But I think it's cool because it's neat to have one with nuanced little differences instead of 2 exact carbon copies. Plus a worn in Ibanez just feels so super, lol

I got both my RG550R-XX and RG770DX-LB Reissue for $450 apiece, and I do believe that is a good deal

That's a fantastic deal! Cool that you're in Pepperell, I'm only about 45min from you

As for the colors, I also have a 90 or 91 rg570 that i wasn't sure if it was RR or CA. In the past I held it up next to my JS1200 and 770DX reissue and it didn't match either one. Sure enough putting it next to the '91 770DX it matches perfectly, so that solves that mystery.

Cool, a local Ibanez guy! Since '08 I've gone thru 17 RGs including 2 original '87 RGs in red and yellow that I absolutely regret selling but for now besides the 770dx and the 550r I have a RG3550mz-dy, Rg2550z-gw and so far I'm happy lol
