NGD beat up RG750 and some questions

Hello everyone, been mostly lurking here lately but yesterday I came across what looks like a RG750. It's not new and needs some love. Original bridge PU was changed to an EMG 85. But at 240$ canadian including the original PU, I could not say no even if it had some battle scars like dings and scratches.

I don't know if I have done a good deal but it plays very well and neck is in very good shape as is the pocket assembly.

I have a few questions.

First, serial number was off the back of the head. Any way of know when it was made?

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t...2/IMG_4185.JPG

Also, how do I clean a pitted/rusted Edge assembly?

I removed the neck and saw a small wood shim that, is it normal?

Electronics: I plan putting back the original PU and use the EMG in one of my other guitars, so what do I need to bring this back to something similar to a stock version? Anyone got some diagram/schematics?

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B...2/IMG_4188.JPG

Thanks in advance for all your help. And sorry for the pics, I did not remember how to post them.

Yep, looks like a 750 to me. Yes, the piece of wood in the neck pocket is normal. It's called a shim and its used to set the neck angle. Unless you have issues with the guitar playing well, don't move it.

Could be newer, but I would doubt it's older than 1990, since the '89 750s didn't have matching headstocks.

Here's your guitar:

I'm guessing it's gotta be at least a '92 since I think that's when they started using the Edge Pro bridges in that model, right?

Good catch on the Lo Pro Edge. Looks like '92 was the first year for the Lo Pro Edge and the last year for the 750 in the US. Guess you've got yourself a 1992 RG750CA.

YES, you are right. I meant Lo Pro. From what I've read the 1992 model was specifically the more sought after because of the little upgrades and changes like the middle pickup and bridge before discontinuing if I'm correct. Nice guitar score!
I gotta post my NGD because I just happened to get a nice '90 black 750 all stock. Sold a Jem 70v to offset and surplus too. No regrets, dude 750's are tremendous

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Yep, some of you have good eyes, the bridge is indeed a Lo Pro Edge. Again, according to some of you above and Ibanez Wiki, it's a 1992. And again, according to Ibanez Wiki, the color would be Candy Apple Red.

So, wife was cool this afternoon and I spent most of my PM cleaning the guitar. I removed everything and with some elbow oil, I managed to make it shine. My pics don't show it but it has a lot of scratches, dings and some paint is off here and there on the periphery of the body. The Edge finish is also pitted a bit and the black chrome is off at a few places but I've seen worst. Luckily, the neck is a very good shape and overall I think the guitar looks good.

Will put some new strings on it tomorrow evening and will redo the electronics later this fall. Don't have the time for this right now. I looks good with some of friends here.

Looks like it's in good company. I love those early 90s RGs--the high water mark of technical guitar before it broke on the rocks of grunge. Those MIJ RGs are the best I've played.

Sorry to burst your bubble my friend! I wish what you said was true. lol

I don't know what color code is DAB...

From back to front in my family pic:

RG7620 (1998 if I remember well)
RG350MYE (first year they made them as a limited run)
RG550HP (1989 from serial)
RG550 (1994 from serial) should be Electric Blue according to that year catalog but it looks more Emerald Green, not blue at all... And EG was only made in 1992 (according to Ibanez Wiki)

And my latest one, RG750 CA (1992 according to parts as no serial)

So no "trifecta" but still a not too bad collection. RG350 plays awesome and now has Dimarzio PUs (ToneZone bridge, Evolution neck).
