NGD!!/Calling Strat Experts!

Got this in a trade today. The only strat I ever owned was a HM so I need some help identifying it if possible. I'm not sure what is original on whats not?? its got a cherry stain kind of finish. Gold hardware, big F neck plate, mirror pickguard and trem cover. Plays and sounds great I just don't know much about Fenders. No visible serial,, is it on the neck butt? Anyway, enjoy!

Re: NGD!!/Calling Strat Experts!

looks definetly a partscaster.
1: the neckplate is on crooked as heck and the screws in the neck must not be in right spot.
2: it has vintage tuners but i see a hole behind one.
3: no serial seems shade but maybe its a vintage neck put on a newer or mexican body.
4: take the neck off and check holes and see if there a date on the heel.

if it plays good keep it ,strats all sound good no matter where their made as long as they stay in tune.

Re: NGD!!/Calling Strat Experts!

weird! the one other strange thing about the headstock is that there is no "contour body" decal on the round part.

good eye on the neck plate.. its actually the neck plate its self that is not totally square. the top right corner is a bit mis-shaped. Gonna take the neck off and get to the bottom of this..
thanks !!

I thought it was an MIM standard in trans wine. somebody did a lot of parts swapping/ upgrading to it.

Re: NGD!!/Calling Strat Experts!

I took the neck off and the butt has a small "3" written in pencil. same with the flat part that faces the pocket. hey, it plays and sounds great,, the guitar I traded for it I was asking 180 bucks for so no biggie.

Re: NGD!!/Calling Strat Experts!

I'm thinking just a MIM with a different pickguard (the extra holes give that away) and swapped hardware. The tuners are definitely not stock to that neck. There's a hole partially obscured at the tuner at the top of the headstock.

yeah, I can see all the old holes for the original tuners. these gold ones,,although not a fan of that style,,,really keep it in tune well and are rock solid. I had to rewire the middle pickup and I think these are home spun! The middle and neck pickups sound outstanding. think the bridge one may need replacing at some point.

Re: NGD!!/Calling Strat Experts!

I'd get some locking schallers in gold. I would also take that neck off and see if the previous owner messed up the holes on the body and order a proper neck plate for it.

Re: NGD!!/Calling Strat Experts!

The body is definitely not Mexican. Te routing leads me to believe this is an aftermarket body (warmouth, mighty might). Mexican bodies have some random routing circles near the lower horn under the pickguard.

I agree, That's definitely not a Fender body of any origin. The pickup routes are all wrong, There are no ID tags, and it's missing the locator "holes" as requiem mentioned.

FWIW....Fender doesn't route a recess for the pickup mounting screws into the body......the pickup cavities are all flat.
