NGD from the Custom Shop

here is the reason I need to sell my GMC 7 string

I know there are no pickups in it, i got the guy to knock money off for keeping the pickups he had in there and I didn't want his pickups anyway. I'm putting in some Zebra 57 Classics later today. From what the guy says this is a one off custom color. I'm not too concerned about that, but I will verify that with Gibson later.

Whats with the bevel on the back? What model is this, a real Gibby or what?

Pic with the pickups

It's a for real Gibson
The model is Les Paul Standard Acxess. Slightly thinner body, rounded by your ribs, no heel, some have a floyd rose

Re: NGD from the Custom Shop

Ahh, not having the FR threw me. Looks much better than the standard access (its a bad idea IMO to put a floating trem on an arched top, not to mention the neck angle of a gibsin is not conductive to it.) Kind of threw up the red flag, I have seen more faked Gibsons the last three years than all other counterfeit guitars put together over the last 20.

Now dial in those pole pieces and pup height and you're good to go.

Great score, bud! I'm no fan of Gibbies-- but that is a beauty! Looks close to a rootbeer burst. Very cool.

Excellent score! What neck profile does it have?

Re: NGD from the Custom Shop

I'm really curious about the shaved neck heel. How does it feel?

We have no Gibson dealers around here, so I doubt I'll have a chance to check an Axcess out in the near future.

Re: NGD from the Custom Shop

Nothing fancy with the pickups, just a set of Gibson 57 Classics. I didn't want to spend the money on WCRs and my other LP, my SG and my p-90 LP all have WCRs in them. In addition to the GMC I'm selling I sold my other 61 RI so I was without a guitar with 57 Classics in it, that helped make the pick up decision too.

Or were you asking about the tele pick up winder? Funny story about that, I ordered the pick up from that guy but before he finished it I decided to get a Hot Rails neck for the tele so now I have a hand wound neck pickup without a guitar to put it in. I guess its a good reason to buy another tele eventually

Re: NGD from the Custom Shop

The shaved neck heel is great, you really dont even feel it. I tend to wrap my thumb over the neck though so the top of the body still gets in my way at times, the profile is a fatter 60s neck. it may be the assymetric profile Gibson started using on the Standards, there isn't any info on the profile on the site and I havent heard back from customer service yet.

Re: NGD from the Custom Shop

I think it had 496/498 or whatever they are called, (which i hate)stock that were splitable with push/pull volume knobs, the original owner replaced them with burstbuckers then replaced those with Wolfetones. I never used the Wolfetones but after checking out the website they sounded great but I'm still happy with the 57 Classics and savibg $80
