It sounds GREAT too. After I get it home I'll do a quick demo of it just so people can hear the Core tone and Super 58 combo. I know someone wanted to hear what a Super 58 sounds like in a solid body guitar

Re: NGD? :D

So i'll be bringing home the new baby tomorrow, will record something on my cell phone to demo the pups after I get home. It'll be preliminary until I can get my recording set up and get demos of all of my guitars in the next couple months.

I can't wait to hear your sound sample. That's a beautiful guitar and it seems like Ibanez got it right with the pickups form the start with that one.

Oh they did. When I played a bit on Monday (albeit through a roland cube) the pups just shined through. The core tone can handle lots of gain and the super 58 is just a beast for ANY genre. This is the type of guitar you give a kid to learn anything they want on it: One of the most versatile guitars I've ever played. The super 58 does lack a bit of punch compared to the Core tone, so using a boost pedal is required for the stuff I like to play, but other than that, the best pup combo Ibanez has ever come up with imo.

Using any guitar through something simple like an unadorned Roland Cube is a good way to judge the sound and output of the pickups. Almost any guitar can sound great through an expensive set of rackmount digital amps and effects but just a general run thru with simple amp helps make one jive with guitar's electronics as they are.

I just got a small 15 watt Fender amp (Squier 15G with volume/treble/bass only) and it's good for practice and learning to work with idiosyncracies of different pups. If you can get a great sound with your small Cube and Roadcore, you will sound amazing on your high end Hughes and Kettner setup and your choice of effects. It's kind of like warming up with a high action Martin or something right before a gig with an electric. This one guitar master I knew back in the day would do this when I asked him how his hands had such physical command of the strings and how he never got tired or missed bends.

I actually like how they didn't use high end DiMarzios, or Wilkinson type standard trem, or painted headstock with fancy Ibanez logo. It has what you need which are the two humbuckers and a nice neck (I assume) with good fretwork. I know some won't buy this MIJ Ibanez because it's too simple and doesn't have special Cosmo black hardware and Evos but the Roadcore seems to be a workhorse guitar to get you through a set without the issues and worries of fancy wiring or fancy double locking trems.

Here's some pics of the baby at home

Here are the frets, I don't know if you can see them well, but the fret finishing is damn near perfect

Re: NGD? :D

Well, got my demo video finished, don't mind the crappy playing, I just wanted to demo the sounds of the pickups with my current rig setup, nothing special:

Nope, the body shape doesn't fit in the normal cases. Hey at least it's cheap. Cheapest MIJ out there currently (the only cheaper MIJs were the RG550/570/670 Genesis collection guitars). I don't care either, I don't need a 3rd hard case. I already have 2 and they take up too much room as it is.

I paid 109,000 yen. Any normal RG prestige starts at about 130,000 (like the 2015 RG2550MZA). The Genesis collection RGs were at 85,000 or so, the GCs from last year were the AR models, and all of them were 130,000+. So, yes, the cheapest MIJ guitars currently are the RCs.

EDIT:

There is one model of the RC1720 that has soapbar single coils (yellow and white) that are about 10,000 yen cheaper than mine, but I like humbuckers so I went for maple board RC (plus I like maple more than rosewood)

Re: NGD? :D

well I don't think a 110k JPY is cheap but ok it doesn't actually matter..

But that RC is actually not a Prestige nor a J-custom right?

Technically it's prestige. Doesn't have it on the headstock, but the box it came in was a prestige box and it comes with the prestige tool.
