NGD (delayed) - '94 S540 CG

I wanted one of those for a while, and as with all good things, in the end it literally found me (or rather, her owner). I got it already a while ago, but the rainy weekend finally gave me some incentive to get her cleaned and set up (hence the missing truss rod cover on the pictures).

It's a 1994 MIJ Ibanez S540 Saber in Cayman Green (CG), featuring a Wizard neck with maple fretboard and elliptic inlays, Quantum pickups and Lo-Pro Edge. The '94/'95 Cayman Green was a slightly different color than the '93-only Jade Metallic (JM), these guitars further came with the Ibanez/USA pups.

I love the neck - it has a slight flame to it, and the quarter-sawn pattern shows nicely on the fretboard. No neck pocket cracks, only light fingernail scratches on the body. The little cosmo wear screams pseudo-vintage, and the guitar plays and sounds killer. All that is missing is a genuine 90ties Saber case for it, but the generic one I got will do for now. The only true issue is the original trem arm, which is the type without nylon bushings, I'll get myself one from the bay in due time.

Why am I babbling - pix!

Part is good wood gets more expensive and rare these days, and I am sure salary margins, etc contribute as well. But hey, there are always used ones from the Golden Age out there...all a matter of patience.

Re: NGD (delayed) - '94 S540 CG

It does have some discoloring on the hardware, but nothing major. Only the tone knob has its top part full of rusty pimples. Also, the pickup pole pieces are rusty and the frets needed some work. Some discoloration on the treble side of the fretboard edge, that's it. Plays wonderfully.

The QM pubs (they seem like medium output) are better than the Vs or Dimarzio/Ibz pickups. They are more organic sounding, especially the neck humbucker, which is very snappy and cool when split together with the single coil. The bridge humbucker is however rather treble-ey, and gets kinda undefined under high high distortion. But that can be tamed with the amp settings, so I'll keep it stock.

That's why I am always on the lookout for a minty blue S540 w/ sharktooth inlays and F series pups .
