NGD Ibanez RG2228

I wanted an 8 string for a while, and I wanted one of the best, but the best production models (Ibanez, Schecter, Carvin, ESP) are all in the $1200+ range. Waited till fate decided to throw me a bone and I actually found one I could afford so I bought it at a great price. Awesome deal, awesome guitar, couldn't be happier.

Re: NGD Ibanez RG2228

thanks guys, i like it a lot, i was lookin into 8-10 strings, but after playing an 8 string, i decided 9 and 10 were too much: too low notes/frequencies for the guitar (and guitar amplification/pickups) and uncomfortable to play, at least fretting would require a serious 90 degree wrist bend - which might lead to carpal tunnel lol. i thought 8s were too much at first before trying, but i gave a couple a shot and i liked it, so since ibanez had an 8 string prestige/team j craft (j custom?) with EMG 808s, i had to get it, moreso than anything because of what i was able to buy it for that made it possible and irresistible. plus with the money i had my only option for a 9 or 10 string was agile, so it was like (a) get the best 8 string on the market [for me/IMO] or (b) get a 9 or 10 string ive never even tried from a company i dont know much about and dont like really.

syl, ive never done a vid but since you mentinon it, it will come soon as my 2gb of ram gets in cuz pro tools is corrupt on my original computer, and i reinstalled it on another hard drive, but now it wont record with 1gb, and im curious to make a pro tools video (meaning audio in 11r>pro tools w/ webcam as vid, cuz u wont wanna hear this thing thru my webcams mic and my quarter stack lol)...any requests as far as guitar solo, programmed drums, layered keys, clean/overdriven/both?

ill tell you what dorian, it would be daunting except for the wizard neck, which is why i wanted the rg2228, its the thinnest, fastest 8 string neck on the market....lemme put it you like this, if ibanez made vai an 8 string jem/universe, this is the neck they would use, and i consider jem necks top of the line and thinnest.other 8 strings necks that ive played are thicker and make it less playable. right scale/ length too, 25.5-26.5" arent long enough really for the low F#, but 27" is just right, there are longer necks, but thats too long for me....

with all that said, even with a wizard neck, idk about 9 and 10 strings tho, and i doubt guitar companies are going to make a production 9+ strings guitar. there are semi-custom agiles and halos, but idk anything about those companies and i wouldnt spend $725 to see if i liked a 10 string not knowing if i could resell it.

Re: NGD Ibanez RG2228

They did make one for vai, and it was the neck they used, he along with some other sig artists got prototypes made for them ages ago, iirc steve didnt dig it much but tony macalpine did which is how he went onto getting his own LACS 8 string.

I love my rg2228 can so much fun to play around with ^^

Re: NGD Ibanez RG2228

I want to get an RG2228A in the future. But I don't usually tune any lower than drop A so it'd be just a fun guitar and wouldn't get much use.

there ya go surprised steve didnt like the 8, but tbh id expect him to have 7 string tuning from the 8th to the 2nd string and the first string would be a high a (BEADGBEA vs F#BEADGBE), but iirc his high a universe experiments kept resulting in broken strings so he ended up with a low b.

and yeah the tone/frequency is so low that the use is a lil limited, but if u like heavy metal, its definitely useful

im guessing you prefer passives (d-activators) to EMGs?

Re: NGD Ibanez RG2228

im pretty selective and picky with hum pickups. kind of anyway...if its not an 81/85 in the b/n the only passives i want are tone zone/paf pro. actually i have 6 guitars, 4 have emgs (steinberger gl2t 81/85, esp mii custom shop 81/slanted sa, schecter damien elite 7 fr 81-7/707, rg2228 808/808,) 2 have tone zone/paf pros (paradise jason becker sig tone zone/hs2/paf pro, vigier excalibur surferter special tone zone/fs1/paf pro)

im curious to try sd blackouts tho, i hear they are as good as emgs but a lil more "organic" whatever that means. i also liked the liquifire/crunchlabs i tried, i used to have evolutions in my jem which are excellent, but distinct so then i felt like i sounded like i was tryin to copy vais tone. eh whatever, i just prefer actives for the extra output, but i love dimarzios nonetheless.

as for the 8 string, all i wanted was 808s

Re: NGD Ibanez RG2228

Extra output? EMG's have lower output than a Tone Zone. Why do you think they have to be raised so high? That's what gives them their clarity though.

And it sounds like you've never tried Lundgrens before

Re: NGD Ibanez RG2228

congrats, those are nice, my friends got one, somehow i find them super easy to play as the fretboard is so flat.

Can I ask you something though, I dont know if my mates was a dud, but i found it annoying how the fine tuners had very limited range compared to an edge pro or something, and due to their limited range, you cant get them to all be at the same height. Is this the case with all of them?
