NGD - Ibanez RT 240VS

Here is my new (old) RT 240VS. I just picked this up a few months ago from a forum member (thanks Leishan). My original idea was to get something like this and turn it into a "Timmons" clone. However after a lot of thought, I decided to do something more personal and original by leaving the black hardware and just changing the pickguard to the white pearloid color. So, I contacted Adam at REDzLINE and had him make this custom pickguard. I think it turned out awesome!

As far as the guitar is concerned, it plays so nice! I own an RG570 and an RG2120X and in comparison I think it plays on par with both of those but in its own unique way. The Viper profile neck is VERY comfortable to play and the guitar stays in tune very well. The tone is great....see for yourself in these videos. I recorded this using my JamVox straight to the pc and backing tracks from www.bluesjamtracks.com:

Dude, nice. I used to own an RT650 myself. Those are bad arse modern strats, basically. I think yours may actually be an RT450TS, by the looks. Check out the '93 catalog scan below.

You know that before there was an Andy Timmons model that he played RTs, right? He's actually pictured with the black version of your guitar (RT450BK) in the '93 catalog.

I liked your tone and playing as well. Just use your pinky more.

Thanks for the commment Yeah, I've been trying hard to work in more "pinky action" lately LOL.

As for the model, I found this: http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/disc...tml?1149628538

Apparently the 240 was a non-US model, but like you said almost identical to the 450. Anyone know of a way to confirm which this is i.e. through a serial number search?

Thanks!

Also, the serial number begins F2xxxxx so it wasn't made in '93 like these US only models.

Re: NGD - Ibanez RT 240VS

Interesting. I'd never heard of the 240 version. My RT650 had a sticker on the back of the headstock that said "RT650". LOL. The Non-US theory makes sense though. Does yours have the push/pull tone pot to split the 'buckers?

And yeah, I loved the neck on that guitar. Ibanez definitely got it right. Too bad they didn't give the series more of a chance. It's basically a 24 fret Strat with humbuckers.

The RT line was introduced late in '92. I have the catalog supplement here somewhere. My RT650 was a '92 as well. Ibanez introduced the RT452 12-string in 1993.

Yep, it's got the push-pull pot. You're right, it definitely fills the gap between my Strat and my RG's...in a GREAT way! I rarely play my Strat due to the neck profile but there are times when I need that type of sound. To me, this is the best of both worlds

COOL! Man, if you can find that I'd love to see it! Info on these models is so scarce. I'd love to get my hands on a 452 as well. I saw one a few months ago on the bay that finally sold for around 6 bills. Yikes!

If you're really curious, which you might not be, the model number is usually stamped on the neck's heel and/or in the neck pocket. Admittedly, I may be more curious than you are.

I've found sketchy info (at best) about the RT240, and ones I've seen had the H-S-S configuration. Very interesting guitar. I wish that link (on the page you found) to the European catalog worked.

Ah yes, I forgot about that option. I wish I would've remembered to do that when I had it all disassembled for the pickguard. It might have to wait until the next string change.

Re: NGD - Ibanez RT 240VS

Did you have any problems with the REDzLINE pickguard? I bought a RG truss rod cover from them recently and it was like twice as thick as it should be. I had to sand it down forever to get it to fit underneath my tension bar

No, it fit perfectly and all the holes were spot-on! I was really impressed!
