Thumbs up NGD!! Last Wednesday really, IBANEZ ART

I purchased a new Ibanez ART 420 HAM (honey amber maple) at my local shop last Wednesday. I hadnít been in the store in a long time and was a little surprised to see quite a few very nice Ibbyís. I had not considered the ART series guitars but this one just screamed at me. The finish and graining on this guitar is very beautiful. I think the 12th fret inlay is cool and somehow the clear knobs seemed right too. I prefer the rosewood necks and the overall fit and finish of this guitar is amazing. I have played it a little now and canít believe how great it is. I have not owned an Ibanez with a fixed bridge until now. The Gibraltar is pretty simple in design but is quite nice looking. I think the bridge is a little high on this unit so the guys at the store will adjust it Iím sure. I probably could do it on this one, it looks really straightforward. The active pick-ups seem like they are going to be more than fine for the short term, maybe longer. The neck through is very sleek and the guitar is really quite slim and light. I love the tone this guitar has (when I stop staring at it long enough to play a little). I had been wanting a Ďpick up and playí guitar and something cool looking for cleaner styles. I think this guitar will be just about perfect for that. It has really blown me away overall. I know its no 80ís RG or JEM or anything but for the price and quality of this instrument it should be considered. Grab an ART series next time your in the store if you havenít yet. You may just add it to the wish list. As others say, the pictures do not do it justice.

Thanks for the comments Grendel and IBZR.

No mods planned just yet, the thing actually sounds pretty bad-ass.
Lower the action a little and I think the rear pup is high. Thats about it.
LOVE IT SO FAR.

Really liking that, the design is real cool - is the overall finish good? Only reason i ask is that i picked up a little 520 last year and it's great. Didn't expect it to be as good as it is actually... Posted here before that the quality of this type of guitar is now very good compared to some other manufacturers

Re: NGD!! Last Wednesday really, IBANEZ ART

Yes robbiano, the fit and finish are incredible. The ART series may be the best value in the Ibanez line up right now, or real close to it. I know that alot of Chinese produced
guitars have bad reps for the most part but this guitar is the exception. Looks and feels as good as guitars priced significantly higher.
The 420 is on the upper end of price as was your 520 but the 100's and 300's are the same unit for the most part. Excellent value in those.

Re: NGD!! Last Wednesday really, IBANEZ ART

That's good to hear - tried out only one 300 and that was great which got me looking there to be honest. I'd considered Epiphones etc but then saw the build on this and the 520 and was blown away. The attention to detail gets me - the fine binding touches around the body and headstock etc and the fact that everything fits good. Pretty impressive really. Fretboard isn't bad either and the pickups do a fine job.

Get the feeling that this whole range could end up with a little of the reputation of the RG - underappreciated by some but just dead good.
