Cool NGD: nice little mod on a 570FM

Hi guys,

here's a little holiday mod project I just completed.

I got this '92 maple-veneered RG570FMTR with no bridge and a missing bridge pickup, so I had a custom pickguard made and threw in some parts I had in my drawer, including a chrome EDGE and a DiMarzio "The Breed".

This is how it looked before:

And this is how it looks now:

It looks like a cross between a RG1200TR and a Yamaha Pacifica 510V.

Comments are welcome!

Looks great! I've always gravitated towards RG's with pickguards. They just look naked without them.

Re: NGD: nice little mod on a 570FM

Thanks! I also wanted to go for a "clean" look and at the same time keep the mod reversible, so I used double-sided adhesive tape instead of pickguard screws.

Re: NGD: nice little mod on a 570FM

I wonder if I should replace the black tuners, string retainer and locking nut with chrome parts to match the EDGE. What do you guys think?

Re: NGD: nice little mod on a 570FM

Hmm, not really. The headstock finish is black and therefore doesn't match the body anyway, so I think the mixed hardware should also be fine.

Re: NGD: nice little mod on a 570FM

Must. Match. Headstock!

Can you imagine the CA red headstock with A 3-D (pretty must the thickness and material as the pickguard) pearloid Ibanez logo?

I might have to do this on one of my guitars. . . . .

Re: NGD: nice little mod on a 570FM

That looks awesome. If you want the rest of your hardware to be chrome get some metal polish like Autosol and a rag, and polish the hell out of it. It'll come up nice and chrome.
