NGD/ old guitar

Got this 1991 rg550 which was refinished terribly. I decided to refinish it, didn't do the best job in the world but it will do. Did a full fret dress and changed the pick ups to Evolutions.

Enough talk, pictures!

Re: NGD/ old guitar

Good job man, looks pretty cool. I'd like to see clearer/daylight pics though which I think would show the guitar off better. Did you do the headstock as well???

Re: NGD/ old guitar

Yea, I redid the headstock too. I'll get a better daylight picture taken and post it up later.

Looking great! If only there was a company that made such guitars as standard...

Re: NGD/ old guitar

I followed the instructions in this page. It's actually a material finish.

http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/mat2.htm

I looked for cloth with a Japanese kind of theme and burst it red to cover up the sides. It wasn't really well covered up if you look at it close up but, I think it's fine for now.

Thanks for the likes guys.

Re: NGD/ old guitar

I like it, wouldn't have thought of it with a Japanese theme, but it still looks cool.

Re: NGD/ old guitar

I cheated with the inlays. I didn't know how to do real inlays and don't have the guts to try dremel and cut the shells. I decided that since it is maple finger board, I bought inlay decals, and lacquered over the maple fingerboard with the decals.

They don't need to be sealed. Those buggers will not come off, unless you take them off. I've got the DNA set on one of my RG-570 PNs, and even with those tiny pieces--none have even budged in the past year.

Re: NGD/ old guitar

I wanted to lacquered till they are leveled with the inlays. I decided it was a stupid idea, and just left them after 10 dusk coats of matt lacquer. It's super smooth after wet sanding with 2000 grit sandpaper anyway. So, i left them as they were.
