NGD: Pro line 1770

Hi guys, aquired this PL1770 last week. It's in almost mint condition with just a little bit of buckle rash and the odd other small mark, but other than that she is A1. Even came with the original manuals, guarantee and headstock tag. I won't be drilling any holes in this one.

Cheers pal - the one black button coil taps the humbucker, the cream ones turn each individual pickup on or off and the other black button switches between the buttons and the five way selector. It means you can select any pickup combo and then switch between that and the five way selection with one push of a button if that makes sense.

When those came out they had to be like the dang Space Shuttle of guitars. Just so advanced compared to everything else. Very nice, enjoy!

Re: NGD: Pro line 1770

Cheers guys.

Incidentally, can anyone advise me the best thing to clean the ebony board with when I'm doing a string change? Can I use lemon oil as with rosewood or is that a big no-no?

Re: NGD: Pro line 1770

People need to stop using lemon oil, I dont get why its "the greatest thing ever" lol.

Rough steel wool followed by light steel wool. Then use some BLS oil to rejuvinate it.

Nice axe.

I'm not familiar with that model. What timeframe did those come out?

Re: NGD: Pro line 1770

Those are also a weird blend of traditional and modern having that soft Strat shape coupled with the then-new modern pointy headstock and check logo. Cool, but sort of weird to the eyes at the same time. A great era for Ibanez and really all Japanese manufacturers.

Re: NGD: Pro line 1770

@ linux penguin - thanks for the advice on cleaning the board.

@Inzane cheers - the Pro lines were apparently produced from 1985 - 86 according to a wiki page but according to the serial number mine was made in 1987.

@ Displaced Hokie - I think it looks a bit weird too but that's half the reason I like it. Although I love RGs etc I do like the slightly kookier IBYs.

@ Agent540 - I'm with you regarding the fretboard,I've never had a guitar with an ebony board before and I love the feel and look.
