FINALLY, I found one of my bucket list guitars to buy. A 1986 PL2660PL. One owner, w/case and all case candy(best case candy Iv'e ever gotten to this point).
He still had the white sales hang tag $1089.00 (these were not cheap back in '86).
The edge trem is near perfect.Still has some of the paper on one of the cavity covers!!
I have a nice collection of 80's MIJ Ibanez guitars, RG550/770,sabre,540P, AR350PL a PL1770, both of the PL1880s ect to name a few and this guitar is the BEST playing, sounding guitar of the bunch, even better that my '87 RG550 w/maple board or my JS10th...
The pickups are so warm yet so tight with PERFECT mids and highs.
For the 1st time in my life I actually shed a tear when I bought a guitar.....
If you guys even get a chance to own one...buy it. Jack Secret can attest to these great guitars (I JUST missed buying his black one by about an hour).
Oh,I contacted Jim Donahue and asked about prod #s for these and the whole "Jackson guitars shut the line down due to copyright infringement" thing and here's what he said:
"First it was the PR
models with the Pro-rocker then the PL models with the Edge,
PL2660 they made
in 1987 they only made 7 of them In January
In 1986 they made 132 total of the White ones. (jan,Feb,March,Sept and november)
in 1985 they did not make any of them.
It was not Jackson, Just it did not sell, I remember it well and we blew them out
Lee, thanks I never remember any Lawsuit unless it was so hush that I did not hear it, maybe a cease a Desist,
But really Sales were so bad at that time and until we released the Jem (That was because sales were so bad)"
1 of 132.....I'm VERY lucky to find one, much less in this shape.
Here she is:
****The original owner had a small, square styrofoam on the bottom of the bar. Did the guitars with the edge trems come shipped with those on it back then?****
