NGD RG1420F

Well, I've had this guitar 2 weeks now, and I figured I had better take some pics of it. I ordered it from the man, Rich, and it's awesome.

I haven't measured it, but I swear the neck on this thing is thinner than my RG2550Z. It's also noticeably lighter than my other RGs...I don't know if that's good or bad. I do know that the stock pickups suprised me. They're not the hottest, but they're really clear, even strumming chords with high gain.

Anyway, here are the pics...

And, my Prestigious Ibanez Family...

Re: NGD RG1420F

I never know who is who here!

I'm glad you like the original pups. So many won't even give them a chance and order with their fav Dimarzio's. I think they sound very good, just as the V7/8's have stood the test of time in many a 550.

Re: NGD RG1420F

Hey Rich!

Yeah, I was sure I'd be changing the pickups when I ordered it...now I'm not so sure. I'll probably end up changing the pickups in my RG1527 again, before I do anything to the 1420. Right now it's got a Blaze Bridge and an Air Norton, and the RG2550Z has a Tone Zone and a Humbucker From Hell.

Re: NGD RG1420F

Chasing tones is an ongoing saga with many. But I very rarely plug in a guitar and don't like what I hear, they're all different, they all have their own spice, and I pretty much like them all.

Re: NGD RG1420F

Yeah, I'm really thinking about the Crunch Lab / Liquifier combo in the RG1527 cause I just think they would sound great in that guitar...but then I also think I would enjoy some D-Activators in it too since it's strictly a metal machine. My sixers, on the other hand, have to cover alot more territory...blues, jazz, rock, etc.

Re: NGD RG1420F

Congrats! H H + a whammy always = win IMO. Nice collection.

On the stock pups that you mentioned surprised you - I'm NOT surprised to read that, lol. I have the red 1420F and tried numerous DiMarzio's in it (Tone Zone, Fred, Super Dist, Air Zone, Evo's) for several months, recording a lot of reference tracks to revisit the tones after my ears freshened up...and you know what I settled on for now? Yep, the STOCK v6 pups!!! I slapped them back in and that was that, knew it as soon as I heard it. I guess it still (like always) comes down to all our other variables, guitar/pups into X amp, speakers, mics, blah, blah....and with THIS guitar, the stock pickups felt best through my particular setup, go figure.

Enjoy your new axe!

Re: NGD RG1420F

Thanks for the comments, guys. Yes, as you can tell I like my HH guitars. I've got one more HH guitar...a '99 Gibson SG in natural burst. I don't get along with middle single coils.

I had a really hard time picking between the Anniversary models since I love all the finishes, and I've been gassing for an Ibby with the Tight End bridge for a LONG time. But then, the thought of the Edge Pro being gone for good swayed me to buy the 1420F since I didn't have a 6-string Edge Pro.

Yeah, the stock V6 pups are really great. At the moment, I don't see it being worth the trouble to change them to another pup combo that might not impress me as much as the V6s do.

Re: NGD RG1420F

Thanks man. The pickguard for the 2550 came from Jeannie Pickguards on ebay. I just requested HH when I ordered it.
