Talking NGD: RG1512BK (12-string awesomeness inside!)

Hi all,

I had been wanting to put my fingers on a 12-string RG1512 for a while when a couple of weeks ago I found a used one for sale in Germany (to my knowledge the only country apart from Japan where it was marketed) for about 700 (or about 800 USD).

Just received the guitar yesterday. Such a lovely, inspiring and cool instrument to play and play around with! It needs a little set-up but already plays very nicely. I will probably be swapping the pickups with something else, possibly Duncan P-Rails (anyone have tried these in a 12-string?). Enjoy!

Re: NGD: RG1512BK

Awesome, I didn't know such guitar existed

I didn't try myself but keep reading bad reviews from guitar players I know of. Even the die-hard duncan guys think the p-rails humbucker mode is too thick while singles are too brittle.

But for such guitar I'd definitly go for brighter pickups that has good string separation on neck pickup or at least something that splits good.

Very cool guitar. ^I had no idea they existed either, do you mind posting a demo? I'd love to hear it.

Re: NGD: RG1512BK

I was surprised when I first found out about it a while ago. Apparently, it was only produced for a short period (mine was built at Fujigen in 2010) and specifically for the German and Japanese markets.

Mertay, thanks for your comment about the P-Rails. I might not go with those then. Even though I am a Dimarzio fanboy I also pondering trying out what a pair of active EMGs could do for the 12 strings.

Ripnujabes, I will try to post a demo as soon as possible!

CosmicDebris, I don't know whether it would for Djent! It might if I tuned it down a few octaves ;-) But for now it's in E-standard. One cool thing would be to tune it down to A for example and have only one low A string on the top but the rest of the strings in the usual 12-string doubled fashion - which is the way Karl Sanders of Nile has his 11-string guitar set up, I believe. That might be very cool for djent.

Link to Sanders' 11-string - well actually it's a doubleneck in 11/6 configuration :-)
