NGD RG560

Found this one on the GC site out in Indiana (same place I scored my Blue 550)
it had contact tape stripes on it but they came right off. guitar is in vey clean condition.
I thought it was Grape Ice but I've been told is Lipstick red?
anyway, so far I'm digging it the duncan in the bridge sounds tremendous but it's a bit hot for the neck
pup so I'm thinking maybe a chopper or an Air Norton S?

I haven't decided if I'm going to keep this one yet or not. the Neck is very thin on it (thinner than on my 2 550's)
I may not bond with it we'll see

Aw man, that thing is gorgeous.

As for neck pup recommendations... my advice is to simply lower the pup until it's not too hot and then find out what it does. I bet it's pretty good.

Re: NGD RG560

congrats.looks in great shape.
air norton s. sounds as good as the full sized imo.
I have tons of different dimarzio , duncans and emgs in my guitars, and the air norton is by far my favorite.

Nick, if the neck is too thin for your liking, try to find a usa washburn mg. the necks are fatter than an Ibanez, but are incredible. One of mine is almost an exact copy of my hamer chap neck. great prices for a usa guitar also. If i'm ever up your way, i'll try to stop by with a few to check out.

Re: NGD RG560

I don't mind the thin necks, I have 2 550's that I love, this one , I don't know it feels like there are no shoulders to the back shape at all , or something? I haven't figured it out yet. I need to do a full set up o it first before I decide. I want to bond with it, it plays nice, and sounds outstanding ,and is really in pretty nice shape for a 23 year old guitar (it's a 91).

Re: NGD RG560

I wonder which Duncan that is in the bridge. Looks gorgeous. As for the neck PU, have you thought about the Cruiser?

Re: NGD RG560

My first Ibanez was a RG560. I went into shock the first time I played it. Congrats ^ ^

Re: NGD RG560

did someone sand down the neck or something? it should feel similar to the rg550. Something like that can make all the difference in the world. i got an rg550 that had the neck sanded down to bare wood and tung oil, i hated it. i cleaned it up and put a few coats of lacquer on it and it felt like new.

That's a hot guitar. I have a Purple Neon 560 and it is such an amazing axe. I found an orange one yesterday too. Happy NGD

Re: NGD RG560

Happy NGD man... I love the 560's and I second the Air Norton S for the neck. I have one in a Basswood RG and one in a custom Rosewood Tele I built and it works very well in both guitars...

No I don't think so (if they did they refinished it, it's not bare)
I've come across this with a few 7 stringers from Ibanez as well(rg7620's)
I actually like it bare and oiled, it's not that, the backshape is a bit thinner.
don't get me wrong it's not horrible or anything like that it just may be too thin for me.
Like I said earlier I need to set it up first before I make a final judgement on it.
I have 30 days I can return it to GC for just sell it,I'd rather keep it though as for the most part I really like it and it is in great condition.
I am a long time Jackson/Charvel guy, their necks have a bit of a different feel to them than the Ibanez RG's do. I may just need to give it a little time

Jackson/Charvels are quite a bit different than Ibanezes. Give it time, you'll love this guitar

Everyone says air norton S for the single coil, but I say go for a Cruiser. Cruisers are stratty but hum cancelling, best of both worlds. I lvoe the Cruiser bridge in the neck position, REALLY clean sounds, and bite that the neck model doesn't have.

Re: NGD RG560

Those older necks were all hand finished so there is quite a bit of variation to them. I have an 87 550 neck that's so damn thin I can't believe it doesn't flop around like a noodle with string tension on it...

Re: NGD RG560

I'm just going to throw out there that this might be a perception thing. With a 550, you're looking at all maple so the neck looks thicker. When you see an unbound neck on a 560 with a rosewood board, it just looks so much thinner.

I went through the same thing with my Jems. I could SWEAR that the 777's had fatter necks, but it was just the maple vs rosewood thing.
