NGD: SP-2 (s5400bk?) -- Can anyone here read Japanese?

I just scored this beauty on the bay, received it yesterday, and I am blown away! First of all it really is a '95 model, which makes it pre J-Custom, even though it's almost exactly a black s5400. I pulled the neck, and the marking is hand-written in Japanese, with "SP-2". Maybe "Saber Prototype 2"?... I would love to see the others. It plays better than my other JC's, the setup and finish is a notch above, it's really amazing.

If anyone here can read Japanese, can you tell me what the neck pocket marking means? The body marking is hard to read (it's in pencil), and I think the word on the right is the same as what's written on the neck. The characters on the left are particularly illegible (for me at least), maybe it's a signature...

Anyways, on to the pics:

Nice! I love the Ibanez with mop binding.

How is your photography setup? Those look like they were shot in black room

Well I knew this NGD was coming and it didn't disappoint. Joe, the guitar is absolutely fantastic and that collection is second to none, you own the best group of S Series I have seen. The guitar predates the showcase J Customs by 2 years but looking at it is so like the S5400. Must be a one off prototype of some sort I'd say, I've certainly never seen another. Beautiful!!!!

Re: NGD: SP-2 (s5400bk?) -- Can anyone here read Japanese?

Thanks guys.

There is an interesting thing I forgot to mention, there may be more than one of these. I researched the hell out of it and found one reference to something similar, unfortunately the post is 10 years old and the image link is dead:

After thinking about it a little more, I bet the s5400 on the '97 catalog cover is one of the prototypes. That would explain the differences ("custom made" inlay, plated hardware).

The photography is pretty simple, the black is just a big piece of fabric. I use an external flash, mounted on the camera but not pointed at the guitar, rather using the room walls as reflectors. I'm still perfecting the technique, but it's simple and the pictures are starting to look good.

Wow, that's an awesome collection. Those are the nicest looking S's that I've ever seen.
