found this (link removed by jemsite) any idea which model it is? 1997 i would assume.

The model is an S540 JAPAN, probably the same one that recently sold there for $950, then it could be a different one. Original list was $3000.

The finish basis is called "urushi". It's a special type of lacquer done by Japanese artisans. Here's some interesting info about it:

The special urushi finish on the S-540-JAPAN guitars is done by ONE guy in Japan. His is an extremely caustic process, and he'll probably die from working with all that nasty stuff, but the finishes he produces are damn cool. :-)
