Non Ibanez Guitars

For different sounds, I'd like to have one of each

Fender American Strat (for that quacky funk tone)

Gibson ES-335 (for the Eric Johnson tone)

Jackson Soloist (with Lawrence XL500 Pickups) (for the Alex Lifeson tone)

Taylor 814

Steinberger Spirit with Transtrem

I would've named a Signature if they weren't so crappy. *I love the sound, but they're the most finicky, hard to adjust guitars. *Parts were tough to come by when they were in business, much less ten years later. *I'll just take the Lawrence pickups like he uses now.

I like my Warmoth Strat & a custom Ripley, which is the same shape as this. I have a maple fretboard, H/S/S(not using anything in the middle slot, though), OFR and it's white w/black hardware. It originally was a stereo guitar with a pan pot for each string and Bartolini stereo pickups, & built in fuzz. I never used it in stereo and hated the pickups but loved how it played so I gutted it and put a DiMarzio Multibucker in the bridge and Fast Track 1 in the neck with a 3 way switch.

Hmm... Someone will hang me for this...

* modified Kramer striker (the kribson thing equipped with better pickups. The neck is very nice actually)

* Kramer Baretta '86 (hate the neck heel though... might soon become a "Baretta JEM" kind of thing unless I change my mind again)

Somewhere in the future, a real JEM would be nice, as would a wolfgang, a soloist, etc.

But if I ever get the chance, IŽll get a Kramer Richie Sambora signature model. Those are just awesome! If I canŽt get that, IŽll get an original Kramer Sustainer, just for the razzle & dazzle of the sustainer-thing.

Re: Non Ibanez Guitars - What else do you like?

I did finally get a Byrdland - 1976 Tobacco burst with all original and in good shape gold hardware. It is hard to play if you have long fingers like me and is obviously made for short finger jazz players not Ted Nugent who has medium length fingers -- now I know why he has good speed -- short scale guitar -- It sounds awsome through a Marshall Half stack and I can control it fairly well, but every now and then it gets away from me and I just hit the mute on my pedal board. It is a beast to control, but I would recommend one to anyone who likes semi-hollow look. Ibanez also made a lawsuit model which is just as good if not better.

One weird beast I came across is a Fender Telecaster Deluxe 1974-1976. Strat neck with Tele body and two humbuckers -- Fenders answer to the Les Paul and it will scream talk about tone and easy to play like a strat.

Other than that my fav is my son's pee wee les paul which I have played on stage several times. when you get it new it will never stay in tune and the intonation is way off. Can be corrected with real heavy strings and some adjustment of the "tuneomatic" ( should be crapomatic ) bridge. cheap ass japanese epiphone, but once you get it set, it will stay for a song but that is about it.

Charvels: imports are fine (model series). Right now, I have a fusion parts mutt that I absolutely love! (24.75 scale is pretty cool)

I own an older Peavey Patriot, that's been modded with Dimarzio pickups. It was my first guitar and that thing rulez!

Re: Non Ibanez Guitars - What else do you like?

I've only played one Ibanez that ever really appealed to me-an RGT3020. having never played any JEMs, I cannot pass judgment, really.
My favorite guitar right now is an Ernie Ball/Music Man John Petrucci 6-stringer.
