non-recessed tremelo

hey guys, just wondering has anyone here tried to install a non-recessed tremelo unit on their sa series guitars? cause i notice their bridges have studs just like a rg trem would have and i was wondering if its possible to put a non-recessed trem on it or will i screw up the guitar? ignore the fact the sa series doesnt have a locking nut. thanks

Re: non-recessed tremelo

Well the tremolo on your guitar is a nonrecessed version, ive heard of people using wilkinson, hipshot, and a few other bridge designs. As with any change, your biggest issue will be stud placement.

Wilkinson is most likely to fit, only one knife is rounded, other is flat which means you have few mm of tolerance for stud spacing. I'm not sure about scale length but it should be in the ballpark, enough that you can set saddles correctly.

Re: non-recessed tremelo

I'd be going for a Gotoh licensed Floyd Rose if you were after an OFR style. Same guys that build the Edge, Edge Pro, etc for Ibanez, comes with locking studs, has one straight knife edge, one curved, best trem arm holder design out there. Plus it's cheaper than any of the other decent alternatives (OFR, Schaller, etc).
