Ok, I didnt 'want' a stupid acoustic but....

This is ironically the SECOND guitar in a few months that I paid 50$ for! The other being a awesome blue Strat....

I was at Goodwill (doing some work on the building) and passed this 'broken' guitar. You see the bridge popped off!!!!! LOL

(*just in case you didnt know, a monkey could re-glue a bridge!!!)

As I walked by I seen it had BRAZILIAN back and sides!!!! WTF!!!!!!

Turns out to be a rare Brazilian Takamine 375S. This was a lawsuit copy of the Martin D35....

The pics are taken before I cleaned it, it is really shocking now. I am so excited I could just S*^T myself.

It does have a few dings, needs a good cleaning but the neck is perfect (a little fret wear) and the body is in really good shape for a guitar build in 76.
All it needs is to have the bridge re-glued and some new pins and strings!!!!

BTW:

Here is a video of the same guitar (*Not me playing however!)

Re: Ok, I didnt 'want' a stupid acoustic but....

Thanks guys!

The guitar is so dry I have been giving it a shot a day with the plant mister (*dont laugh) inside and out. Being ultra dry is likely why the bridge popped off.

The frets are already feeling better.....

Here is a shot of re-setting the bridge. I am using light pressure (wont mar the wood) with some vice grips. They make special clamps for this.....I have reset many bridges using this type vice grip...as long as you know how to set pressure these work great.

Now 48hrs to go and some new pins and strings!

Also.....if anyone read this in the future and needs to know how to reset a bridge dont follow my lead here. I did not use alignment pins (*because I have brass balls). Use the pins.....
What is NOT shown is that you need to sand the old glue off the guitar AND bridge. I also like to score the back of the bridge with a razor BEFORE sanding the glue off (score in a check pattern, do it first then sand to prevent raised grooves from scoring). This increasing the glues retention ability.

Also....(*its rarely discussed) I use Titebond III glue, this is the best I have found for this sort of thing. I have NEVER had a bridge failure after resetting using this product. I like to apply a thin layer to each side and let sit for about 15 minutes before joining.

Re: Ok, I didnt 'want' a stupid acoustic but....

Andrew,

I was part of the team that designed a Peavey acoustic 'ecoustic' with tremolo. It was a very cool guitar, the trem top was wood and without the bar you would almost not be able to tell it had a trem. I dont know if this ever made actual production, I left the company around this time.

While a cool concept the guitar already suffered from lack of volume and lack of bass, the trem made it worse.

(just reminiscing)

I'll keep the idea of the edge on the front burner!

FIFTY BUCKS? Oh man! Best deal I've probably ever seen. That even beats the mint condition 1980s 540 Radius a friend got off a co-worker for $120.

Bravo that you also have the skills to bring that puppy back to life, that's sure lovely wood!
