old RG or new Saber (questions regarding trem)

Hi,
I'm looking for a new guitar, I have a RG450 or 480 or whatever equipped with a lowtrs trem. Maybe you saw the other thread. The trem is something I dislike on that guitar, but the rest is really nice. So I was thinking of a new trem for it but then i thought i could get a new guitar. The question is which one.
I want a guitar with a really really good trem which stays in tune even if you do the craziest whammy stuff. I thought a old RG550 or RG570 might be a good choice because of the edge but I noticed that many of the old ones did not have an AANJ which my RG has and I really like that.

Another option would be a S470 but I'm not sure if the trem is as good as an edge or if it is the same crap like my lowtrs. And I did not see any pictures of the back of any late sabers, but do they have an AANJ?

Greetings from Germany and Merry Christmas
Andy

Re: old RG or new Saber (questions regarding trem)

My saber does not have AANJ and it is a 91 or 92 I believe. So basically stay away from 92 or older sabers if you want AANJ. The new korean S series has the ZR trem, which I hate with a passion. You might like it though. Good luck with any decision!

I think all of the late 90 high end jap made RG's had the AANJ and the nice EDGE trem. Keep an eye out for those.

And what is the reason that you hate the ZR trem?

The one at the guitar shop squeeks horribly and I don't like the feel.

I think that for the money, older RGs are some of the best rock guitars you can get.

Re: old RG or new Saber (questions regarding trem)

I'm a fan of 90's RGs and S series guitars. I think that the current Korean S models are very nice and the ZR trem seems interesting but it is just REALLY bulky. I mean, the whole reason why the S was such a badass guitar was that it was small and LIGHT even though it had a trem.

If you like the guitar that you have a lot, then I would just upgrade the trem on it. That would definitely be cheaper than buying even a used RG. Assuming you get a trem with a direct retrofit, it shouldn't cost you more than $300 for the parts and labor.

I like the old S 540s with the non-aanj and Lo Pros which is why Id prefer a 5407 over my S7420 only if they would make one with a flamed maple top. I wish. Having the aanj is a plus though but still,..........
