oldschool ibanez help

well theres this oldschool ibanez les paul at my local music store. has the oldschool ibanez logo, the curly type one, but if memory serves its got a post-lawsuit headstock. has a serial number too. rosewood fretboard, dot inlays i think. some crazy celtic engraved pattern on the stratch plate. unfinished wood body, but it could just be that someone took the paint off. its £125, any information on it, or recommendations towards the price anyone? any info at all would be greatly appreciated

Re: oldschool ibanez help

if it is the one I think it is, it is a killer guitar for 125 quit. Have you tried it? and if yes, did you like it?

If yes on both answers, buy it before it's gone.

Re: oldschool ibanez help

The serial number will give you the manufacture date as well. It should be a letter, then 7X, with the letter being the month and the two numbers being the year. J78 would be October of 78, for example.
If it's a set neck then absolutely grab it immediately. If it's a bolt on, play it and grab it if you like it. The bolt on ones are good guitars (I've seen Paul Gilbert play them live); don't let that scare you off.

Re: oldschool ibanez help

Being from the UK, and therefore knowing how expensive guitar equipment is, I would definitely grab it for £125 without hesitation. They hardly ever crop-up over here, and if you dont like it you could easily sell it on with no problems at all. It sounds nice to me, so its definitely worth looking more closely at thats for sure.

Let us know what you do.

Re: oldschool ibanez help

tasty, im praying its not gone. saw it on wednesday, gonna put a deposit down tomorrow morning. its a bolt on neck. bit of wear and tear, the layer of wood on the face of the body (cant remember the proper name for it) is starting to come away slightly near the bottom, a drop of wood glue and a clamp should do fine. i had a go on it, liked it a lot. the set up leaves a little to be desired, but nothing i cant handle. had a really thick jazzy type sound

thanks for the input y'all

ok, i bought the axe, its here right now. gave the guy an original crybaby as part-ex, plus 40 quid. still owe him 35 quid, but hes cool about it. according to the serial on the neck plate its from january '77, its pretty tasty, although it needs a serious set up
