One Man's Trash - Another Man's Treasure

My girlfriend's mom is retired and she likes to go out and recycle bottles from peoples trash, and as much as I use to pick on her about it, recently I've decided to honor her for it. Last week she found a hard shell Ibanez case. It's not a UV case, but it's got Ibanez written in white on the front. Fits my RG550 pretty good so I was so happy. But this morning she found a white Charvel V. It's an offset V like a Randy Rhoads model, and it needs a lot of electronics work and a bit of love, but it's in pretty good shape!! FOR FREE!!! Isn't that COOL?!?!?!

She knows which days are the trash days, for each area in my hometown of Lowell, MA. Today she was on Andover Street in Lowell, and that's in a section of the city that is really, really rich. You know, the million dollar homes and stuff. She said it looks like someone just threw out everything in the attic or basement. I've gotta put a new input jack on it, and the points on the V are really chipped badly. But, I'm very happy. I bought her a case of Pepsi for giving it to me, and she was excited. She had no clue that it was a decent guitar, she just knows it's broken.

Ah... when I worked in Lawrence I knew a few folks who used to 'trash-pick' in Andover (wealthy 'hood) on their trash days. Some great finds, but no musical equipment...

Congrats though!

I have thought about road-tripping to Manchester, NH to the 'Daddy's Junky Music Store' corporate office- their service dept. is also located in that bldg. and I wonder what sorts of cool things they throw out on their trash days...

Sounds like a candidate for a REALLY nice re-finish. C'mon, any excuse for a really cool paintjob is a good one!

That's a really good idea! Manchester, huh. Heck, I've got no morals, I'll climb in a dumpster. Gimme 10 fingers and throw me in it. We'll split it 50/50!!!!
Two hands31,
I know what you mean, the first thing I thought of was that I didn't spend any money ON the guitar, so blowing $300 on a swirl or something cool should be justified. Who knows, maybe I will later on.

Geez, you have to wonder what guitars are IN the house when you find something like this in the trash.

My brother's borther-in-law "dumpster dives" on Sunday mornings, concentrating on strip malls, and has come up with some pretty interesting stuff. My brother got a 21" monitor from him, back in the day when they cost $400-500. I needed only to have a wire splice or something of that nature - something really simple.

Dumpster diving good.
