Open back on S body

I've seen a lot of guitarists do this, but I never understood why. I can't make out any difference.

Do any of you play with the back panel open? Why? Do you find the instrument is more resonant that way?

It's more about laziness than anything else, at least for me it is.

I've tried both and it really makes no difference imho - you can pull and snap on the springs to get some weird skronk guitar sounds...but as others have said, it's not about tone - it's really all about easy access...

and it's not an exclusive on the S model only, it applies to any guitar with springs in the back.

Re: Open back on S body

Yup, easy access. I leave the trem cover off all my guitars.

Re: Open back on S body

Honestly, I think it's because other guitars have a recessed back cover, unlike the S series.
