Opinions/advice needed on this PGM500

Hi, I picked up a PGM500 used a while ago which has something rather strange that I've never seen on an ibanez before. The neck pocket is cut too wide for the neck. On the bass side there is approx 0.6mm gap in the pocket between the neck and the body. The treble side is tight against the body. The guitar is all original, nothing has been swapped and neck is stamped pgm500. I can't believe it left the factory like this!!

I'd be interested to know from any experts (rich??) if you have ever seen something like this before and is it likely to effect the guitar in any way or would it be worth trying to fix eg. like putting a wooden shim in the gap.
As far as I can tell it doesn't seem to effect playability it just looks really bad.

here's the links to some pictures

the third photo shows the gap with light shining through it which give a pretty good idea of what it looks like.

chortle - you could drive a truck down the gap on the bass side of the neck pocket on my JEM VDY- seems very stable regardless - more like mid - seventies Fender quality than Ibanez I'll agree.

I wouldn't worry about it. My Ibanez RG520QS has that aswell. There was a cardboard shim installed from the factory and its holds tune very, very well and has no playabilty issues. I suggest you install a paper shim of some sort. Just enough to secure the neck in place, mainly because i find it strange that you have a neck pocket fissure on that side even though the neck dosnt touch that side.

Re: Opinions/advice needed on this PGM500

Thanks for the input guys.
One last question about setting up action on a fixed bridge guitar, should I expect to get a similar low action as an edge equipped guitar? Is there any tricks to setting up a fixed bridge because I've only ever worked with floyd style guitars.

If I lower the string height at the bridge by adjusting each individual saddle and the action is still high what is the next step? (because there is only a small amount you can lower each saddle before the screw is sticking out of the saddle) Do I have to look at neck angle (shimming) or nut height?

You could just give it to me, then you don't have to worry about the gap!

If it plays fine, I wouldn't worry about it.
